I was at work yesterday and one of my friends had a Bama 2007 calender on the wall. I forget the month, but the pic showed Joe throwing a pass ( while jumping) and it looked like he was 3 feet in the air. I know he was a great athlete but wow. I thought this old school pic demonstrated florida kids jump pass was not all that. ROLL TIDE:BigA:

LOL !!!

What is a "NamEth" ?:conf2:?

Thanks to the Mods for that quick editing job .

Ol' Joe was quite he athlete. I remember an old interview with him on an outdoor basketball court, Joe was moving around and just filling it up from outside and at the end of the interview he just lazily walked up under the basket and slammed it down with gusto. This was after he'd already had both knees carved on several times too. Best pure passer ever.

I actually remember Namath doing that a few times and of course that one great photo of him doing it. Man, if we only had the review thing back when Joe went into the end zone against Texas, but the blind line judge didn't call the TD.

If memory serves, that very picture was taken in the game in which he got his bad knee injury...the one that would probably have kept him from ever being drafted in today's NFL. I think it was a 60 Minutes interview of Joe Willie where he said they didn't even subject him to a physical exam before signing him!

Not to burst the bubble, but he was a terrible golfer. He and I used to play together at the old nine hole course. It was the only place he could sneak away to smoke. Even back then, he was very humped over. He used to look like a question mark over the ball, with a cigarette hanging out of the side of his mouth...

Golfers aren't athletes anyway. It's not a sport if you can eat. drink, smoke and carry on a conversation while you're doing it. Or if folks on Social Security can whip your butt at it. ;)

I didn't say that there are no athletes playing golf, just that athleticism is not a prerequisite to be a good golfer.

TM, I don't know if you play golf or not, but athleticism (especially hand/eye coordination) are very important in golf. Also, with the modern swing, the more athletic one is, the better he/she can swing the club with a large shoulder turn against a limited hip turn.

Light years ago (78 or 79) my sister worked for Charlie Thornton during the summer when Coach Thornton's full time secretary took some vacation. Coach Thornton's office was located in the basement of Coleman Colosseum. Located in the storage room was several file cabinets in which one held all of the player pictures bio's and personal info sheets. These info sheets were commonly filled out by incoming freshmen and included such mundane information as name, religious preference, mailing address, etc. Namath's sheet was filled out sloppily and almost unreadable. The blank that asked for hobbies Namath printed "girls"
