:BigA: It is NOT coach speak to say that I would not leave unless I'm forced out. What UM said was coach speak, but SOS has pretty much said thanks, but NO thanks.

I really will be tickled to be wrong about this, I want SOS here, but I do NOT believe it is happening. Despite what the above post says.

There are some people around that are really enjoying yanking our crimson chains on this deal.:BigA:

Sorry I can't reveal my source at this time. I can say they are a pretty large contributer to the University and have a skybox on the 40 yard line in which their is usually some pretty prominate people from the university there during games. So I feel pretty confident that this has some legs to it. So just take it for what it is worth right now. I just wanted to pass this along.

Spurrier is almost a done deal. There are/were two hang-ups in the process. One is the contract length. CSS does not want to commit to 10 years. Second is the confict of Brother Oliver possibly coming back after leaving to go to AU. These have now been resolved. It will include the same amount of money over a 7 year contract, meaning about 4.2 million a year. The Oliver thing has also now been cleared. Look for press conference to be announced very soon.
HELP! Someone please dispel this rumor quickly as I find myself at a moment of weakness wanting so bad to believe yet knowing that "something that sounds too good to be true usually is". Quit toying with my emotions you cruel cruel rumor mongers. What have I ever done to you to deserve such?

I will be glad to do it. You can go back and review my post. I'm not a rumor monger nor a BS'r. I just thought it was very interesting to hear that.

But if it isn't right, i will apologize for posting false info..

But what you posted is rumor mongering. It is no different than the guy who posted that his "friend's mom had spoken to Coach Oliver's wife". I just find it hard to believe that you and the other guy have this information before Cecil Hurt or the mods on this site.

Geez, thx Aunt Bee.

Well, there needs to be something. I have a feeling that a lot of people post these breaking news stories without really knowing anything so if what they post does happen to come true they can say they broke the story when it was really speculation.

FWIW, FootballScoop.com is saying ...

LINK

Not saying this is untrue (I have no inside info and no idea), but if you know anything about FootballScoop.com you know that there is a high likelyhood that their source for this story is one of the various coaching threads on TideFans.com. Just zero credibility to that site. They peruse various school boards and chat rooms and post every rumor they can get ahold of, then if 1 or 2 of their hundreds of predictions come true they toot their horns as great "insiders". Even worse than CSTV, who in their own right has already reported that Spurrier is definitely heading to Miami AND definitely heading to Bama (guess he'll have his hands full trying to coach multiple teams next season).

This isn't the first time that I have heard that Spurrier is coming with Bill Oliver as DC. Does anyone know what the connection is between those two? It just seems kind of random that Spurrier would be insisting to have Oliver. He could have had Oliver at USC if he had wanted him.

Not so, Oliver did not want to go to USC...but he does want to coach with
his good friend Spurrier.

Don't know about friendship, but CSS has long admired Brother's work, & tried to hire him away from Bama just before he hired Stoops. He claimed CBO's D's gave him fits.

I would imagine also that CBO would love the opportunity to "mend" his relations with the PTB at Bama.

I know this may have already been posted, but it might help answer part of your question about these two fellas. During Finebaum's interview on Monday I believe, he posed the question to Oliver - if, hypothetically, Spurrier came to Bama, would Oliver take the DC position if Spurrier asked him to? Brother just said, "let's wait and see what Steve does". Finebaum said, so that's not a "no". Brother just replied, "I know". It was a pretty interesting exchange to say the least. You can listen to it on Finebaum's site.

Spurrier just received two huge verbal committments for South Carolina from 6-4 WR Jason Barnes of Charlotte and 6-4 WR Joseph Hills of Bradenton FL. Both were high on Spurrier's recruiting board for USC and had been waivering, especially Barnes who had been a UNC lean until now. I can't imagine that the kid would go ahead & commit to USC over UNC with the Tarholes recent hire if there was even an inkling that Spurrier were leaving.

According to at least one recruit (radio interview) Spurrier is having a field day with all this on the recruiting trail, laughing about it with recruits and telling them it is a bunch of cr@p.

When the dust settles Spurrier may have a new powerful recruiting tool at USC - he turned down millions from Miami & Bama to stay at USC. I think Spurrier is playing this to the tilt. Loves seeing his name in lights and enjoys seeing Bama faithful squirm & get all giddy over their once hated enemy.

...and no, I have no inside info from Columbia other than our local sports talk and internet boards.

Also, Spurrier is very close to garnering a committment from prize qb Stephen Garcia out of Tampa, FL, possibly this weekend.

Spurrier and Saban would be great, but they are probably not interested.
Realisticly it's going to be Petrino or Rodriguez.
