Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

He could, but even CNS has only so many waking hours in the day. What more important things would he have to forego to devote the time and energy to micromanaging an OC who, almost by definition and notwithstanding CLK's tenure, isn't ready to be a coordinator if he really needs his head coach to micromanage him?

Agreed. There are plenty of things that Saban CAN do that he shouldn't HAVE to do. I'd rather him spend his time doing more productive things than babysitting a dysfunctional OC. None of us know if that description applies to Sark, but if it does I'd rather have someone who is a little more stable. Saban will make the right call. The guy has a mind like a bear trap and I think he learned a lot from managing CLK. What that portends for the future, I know not - but I do trust his judgement.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

I think a possibility might be Sterlin Gilbert, late of Texas. Yeah, the Horns were bad, but that was mainly a defensive lapse. They had a 2,000 yard rusher and started a true freshman from day 1 at QB. Gilbert did nice work there in 2 years.

As others have mentioned, we'll probably guess for weeks and then he'll hire someone we've never heard of, and we'll win a NC with that guy. Man, it's an unbelievable time to be a Bama fan !

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

I don't even care.

Nick Saban has won so many national titles with so many different coordinators that........I'm not going to lose one wink of sleep giving this one any thought at all.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

Here's another reason not to think about the hire - my Barn friends tell me they got the QB they needed, so they are about to take over CFB anyway.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

I'm still of the opinion that Sark is going to be our OC next year.
I do think that was the original plan, but there have been some events, really far removed from the field or the AD which indicate that's no longer the plan. Of course, I could be surprised again...

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

LSU is supposedly about to hire Matt Canada from Pittsburgh as their OC. I don't know a ton about him but Mcelroy said on Sirius sports this morning that he's one of the best, if not "the" best in the country.

He did have a chance though. I'm thinking he really needs to get a handle on much more pressing issues.

Canada was the only OC nominated as a Broyles Award finalist this year.

He flopped at NCST but has had an otherwise very successful career.

After reading further into the situation I will have to agree. Possibly CLK will have Sark as an OC at FAU, beings they both came here from USCw.

Derek Dooley anyone?

I'll step up and do it.

At least then the Game Threads will be filled with Pass the Ball! instead of Run the ball!

I posted this earlier in the thread yesterday. This is a solid hire for them. He turned Nathan Peterman (remember him from UT?) into a serviceable QB (26 TDs 6 INTs). He also did a great job utilizing James Conner who had a good year. Offense wasn't their problem. It was defense. They scored more points than any Pitt team in their history and averaged about 43 points per game. Granted they do play in the ACC and hasn't gone against top tier defenses all year. In spite of this, I do think he's a decent OC.

Is he good enough to get them to topple Bama at the top of the SECW? Probably not but a solid hire nonetheless.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

Now that Saban (and the fans as well) have gotten a taste of a more wide open, diverse offense. I highly doubt we take a step backwards in philosophy. In other words, I don't see us moving back toward a McElwain/Nussmeier conservative style offense. Especially with Jalen at QB.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

I bet Sark does go with Kiffin instead of staying at Bama. I just read on al.com some of what Kiffin said in his press conference. Interestingly, he said that if he had not gotten a head coaching job, he would have returned as OC at Bama. He also said he and Saban had a good relationship despite what some people have heard. Then he said it was highly possible some of Bama staff could go with him to FAU in an enhanced role.

So that means Sark probably will go with him to be OC. We will never know what is really true about Kiffin and Saban's relationship but at least he said the right things in the presser today. I would like to think he really would have come back to Bama for another year if he had not gotten a head coaching job. I wish him the best.
