Some where out there
Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

I for one thinks the job should go to Sark. There isn't anyone available that is more qualified for the job, and some would say he is ever better than Kiffin. We can continue with where we are and not miss a beat. I honestly believe that if Coach Saban can micromanage Kiffin and keep him in-line, why could he not with Sark.
Well..I don't know all the details but I am guessing Saban gave Sark his second chance when he brought him on. If Sark has revisited old habits then that option may be gone.
I also think that if you are hiring a coach at a Major university then that person should be a responsible adult and should not have to be micromanaged. It's the reason we are looking for a new o.c. right now I believe, Saban doesn't want to feel like he has to watch over anyone...any longer. And he shouldn't. That's just my opinion

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

One thing for sure is that Alabama's OC will be coveted job. Highly likely IMO that CNS gets who he wants most.
I agree, and think he's known who the 2017 OC will be for some time....or, at the very least, had a short list in priority order. No way any of this is in any way unexpected or unplanned-for.

I think you'll see him coordinating the FAU offense before you will see it at the Capstone.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

his character issues left him odd-man out versus Applewhite and Kiffin for the Houston job.....CNS ain't touching him.
I don't know your sources, but I have heard nothing here In Norman about Lincoln Riley having "character" issues. Probably the last coach on the staff I would guess would fall into that category. Seems to be a straight shooter from everything I've seen. I heard Riley withdrew his name because a Power 5 job would be a better career move for him. With Baker Mayfield returning, Lincoln Riley will have better suitors knocking on his door than U of H I believe.
Now if that same rumor was about Mike Stoops, that is a lot more believable.

There are probably head coaches out there that would love to land the OC job at Alabama.

I am certain of only one thing. Barring CNS hiring Gus M., I will never be as surprised by a hire as much as when Coach Kiffin was hired.

Here is a guy who is a HC who could do that:

Beau Baldwin, HC at Eastern Washington. He is a stud and turned EWU into a mini powerhouse. EWU was competing, and in some cases beating, Pac-12 teams with Vernon Adams and Cooper Kupp (the best white WR in the modern era - you heard it here first! He'll get drafted in the 1st 3 rounds. He's legit.). We know him well up in Washington cuz he played QB for a High School powerhouse here in Washington (Curtis out of Tacoma, which produces a lot of D-1 and NFL type players), and of course he's doing great things at EWU (I think they've won a national championship). If Leach gets ran outta town (bound to happen one day), Baldwin will be the top choice. And us Husky fans are super thankful Oregon went with Taggert instead of Baldwin. Baldwin is going to be a star eventually.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

Well every time we need an OC we get one and then win a title. I'm good with whoever :)
The sport has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years. Not sure if Mac's offense would get it done today without a really dominant defense like you have this year, and those don't grow on trees - even for Saban.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

The Kiffin hire should not have been such a surprise. Coach Saban tried hard to hire Kiffin before either the Applewhite or McElwain hire. I mentioned at the time of the hire 3 years ago.

Re: Replacement Offensive Coordinator

There's really no way of knowing yet who CNS will consider. I don't think many people would have bet on McElwain, Nussmeier, or Kiffin at the beginning of those searches.

Exactly. It's interesting too that each of those coaches is from the West. Over the years lot of great offense - schemes, coaches and players - has come from the West.

And he went and got Lane who went with the times. Another title and hopefully a second. Nuff said.

He could, but even CNS has only so many waking hours in the day. What more important things would he have to forego to devote the time and energy to micromanaging an OC who, almost by definition and notwithstanding CLK's tenure, isn't ready to be a coordinator if he really needs his head coach to micromanage him?
