Pretty much on cue for the ajc..this guy averages a hit piece every 48 hrs. The dawgs are really desperate to stop Saban's momentum in GA.

Interesting no stories about the 3 uga guys kicked off the team for stealing, no word on the uga player who beat his girlfriend, etc., etc..but lots of one sided stores about Saban.

I'm glad this came back up honestly as I was posting when the other thread was deleted...

I don't feel for him anymore. He STILL had his chance to wear Crimson and CHOSE not to. That was HIS choice. I still laugh when everybody thinks the scholarship was pulled off the table while the kid was sitting out there. The grayshirt was still there, but he took the Arky scholarship instead.

Plus who in God's name is telling this kid what to do?? When do they actually plan on doing anything to his knee? I guess they expect Arky to take care of it now. This kid wont be ready for awhile and they wonder why Saban wanted him to grayshirt, and only passing one part of the EE I seriously doubt he passes two parts between this last test and his last attempt before his supposed graduation. I think he has taken it 4+ times now and chances are after this many times if any kid hasn't passed it yet they wont.

And on Josh Moon, he gets his reads from the barners and will continue to produce the trash he does until they quit reading and commenting (wont happen). I wont even read stuff from that idiot anymore (one story was enough). He's like the scorned girlfriend that just can't and wont shut up.

I feel for the kid in one additional way - it sounds like he's coming from a bad situation (he certainly goes to an awful school), so he's not getting wise counsel.

That said...CNS is a mensch for even offering the the greyshirt in light of the injury and AHSGE issues. Wow.

Michael Carvell has jettisoned any shred of objectivity and professionalism he might have once had and the once proud AJC is mining this crimson vein for all it can get.

i've been posting over there, too. I 'm a newspaper guy. I swear by them. There have been plenty of stories over there about the kids being thrown off the team and the arrest of the other kid for allegedly roughing up his girlfriend. Look for them, they're still around.

But that current piece on Alabama's "recruiting scandal" is a unmitigated piece of crap.

He cannot play in Alabama unless he passes the exit exam. Vigor and Johnson, here in HSV, compete yearly for the lowest scores. Yes, he can play for the Hogs. Boo Moore, from Johnson, back some 8-10 years, couldn't pass the EE and ended up playing for UTe. Private school wouldn't help him. He would still have to pass the exam to play in this state...

So the grad exam only counts for schools in the state? That's ridiculous. It's the Alabama Graduation Exam, not the Alabama Must Pass In Order to Attend In-State School Exam.

Not that it matters, but those exams/tests are the most pointless thing ever.

I do know you will not graduate unless you pass, my wife learned that lesson the hard way back in 96. She only got a certificate of attendance as she failed her math portion.

I just love how the AJC had to add their little notes at the bottom of their story. They just can't let their hate for Bama pass, a lot like Josh Moon and his moronic rants, not to mention al.com's group of dummies (especially Scab and Jeff "Spain Park" Sentell).

Since I posted, a friend, HS teacher and former HS coach has told me that he thinks the exit exam is a problem, and that the rule has changed since Moore came through. Now, apparently, you just don't graduate - period. So it's going to get interesting. Whether or not he sees the field at ARK is going to be interesting...

I was a counselor's aid at Prattville. I thought what your friend told you was/is the case. I remember students coming in to her office all upset that they might not graduate because of the grad exam.

I think the grad exam is a problem, too. Not just for players but for students in general. What do the exams prove? They are all on, or around, an eighth grade level, meaning that an eighth grader knows the information. The other problem I have is that it makes a person, who may or may not be good at taking standardized tests, have to take a test in order to graduate high school, no matter what the person's GPA is or how many credits he/she has.

The facts were out there before, if people wanted to see them.
You had Earle and others giving additional facts.
You have Coach Saban's words and actions of 5+ years to go on.
You have words of present and past recruits and players to go on.
Yet some people cant help to believe what hack writers and reporters with questionable motives and agendas tell them.

Its a head scratcher for sure.

As for the "graduation exam", I don't know how its changed since I had to take it, but I believe its correct that it is at an 8th-9th grade level.
We could start taking it in the 10th grade, and you could take it twice a year. You had 6 total chances.

If someone doesn't pass, they most likely have some kind of learning disorder they need addressed. Its a very basic test.

I do feel sorry for Philon in that it appears he doesn't have good support or guidance.(Grade issues, weight issues, rehabbing)

However, what I'm hearing now throws into doubt the physical problem and his grade issues. However, AU's non-offer is still unexplained and much of the new info comes from a source with something to lose. We'll reopen when the situation clarifies itself a bit...

This is going to get too personal, so I'll leave it generic....

If a kid has a learning disability or exceptionality, let's say "math"....and has an IEP because of that, he/she does not have to pass the math portion of the grad exam to graduate.

Alabama has several diplomas. Advanced and standard are basically the same. Both require passing all of the grad exam.

There is the 'credit based diploma' which means you passed your classes, but failed the grad exam. There is the 'occupational diploma' in which students were taken out of regular classes and allowed to co-op at a job. Typically, these students pass their classes but did not pass the grad exam.

Four-year institutes, to my knowledge, do not accept anything below advanced or standard. The JuCo route would be the only acceptable route, if I am correct.
