Anderson wasn't playing alongside the likes of a Tank Johnson, Ogunleye, or Alex Brown...at Bama he couldn't just rush the qb and forget the run like in CHicago....he was counted on to play all four downs in college

The D as a whole didn't struggle...but if it weren't for the back 7 the defense would not have been as dominant....the D Line while Anderson was at bama was hardly world class, they were good but not great

How much of that had to do with the style of defense kines was running? The style of defense he was running wasn't going to produce a lot of sacks by the DL'men.

Saban's defense is designed to create pressure and force the hand of the offense. Expect for our sacks to go way up in 2007.

They also had a problem of playing toward our weaknesses rather than recognizing the strengths we had and designing the game plan around those strengths.

Different Defenses. I tought Joe Kines did a wonderful job with what he had. Ranked number 1 in this and number 2 in that. Just different attack styles.

You have positives and negatives that come along with both Saban's and Kines' styles of defenses.

Saban's-

Pro- Pressures the offense and forces them to make plays under pressure commonly creating offensive mistakes.

Cons- Susceptible to giving up big play.

Kines'

Pro- Doesn't give up the big play. Forces offense to put together long drives to score.

Cons- Defense waits on offense to make mistakes. Design of defense doesn't force mistakes. Good teams don't make many mistakes.

I would take no defense in the country over our 2004-2005 defenses. They were as solid as you could get. Mark Anderson had a pretty good senior season. Some players just play better in the pros than it college. It happens. Also, teh Bears might have the best DL in the NFL. Taking nothing away from Mark, but it helps to be playing with that unit.
