Local paper, Decaturdaily.com reports that Nikita Stover has signed with Itawamba Junior College out of Mississippi, in case he does not score 4 pts. higher on his next act test June 12.

Alabama signee Nikita Stover has designed a backup plan if he can't score four points higher on his ACT next month.

The Hartselle wide receiver, considered the No. 1 prep prospect in the state, signed this weekend with Itawamba (Miss.) Junior College, the Web site BamaOnline.com reported Sunday morning.

Stover can still qualify to play for the Crimson Tide next season. His final attempt at the ACT will come June 12. He's expected to spend this week in Mobile preparing for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game on Saturday.

The Tide appears to be stocking up for a season without Stover as well. Alabama coaches reportedly have told Brantley receiver Marcel Stamps to report for practice in August.

It was anticipated Stamps would wait until spring to join a Tide team strapped for scholarships.

Report: JC signs Stover

The Alabama All-Star team lost one of its top skill players late Saturday when Hartselle receiver Nikita Stover decided to back out.

"He called me last night and said he'd have to pull out of the game for personal reasons. That was his comment to me," Alabama coach Rush Propst of Hoover said Sunday. "He has some family issues."
Stover, part of the University of Alabama's highly regarded signing class, is in a battle to obtain his freshman eligibility. He took an official visit to Itawamba (Miss.) Community College earlier this week, and his father, Elon Orr, has talked with Hargrave Military Academy coach Richard Motley about the possibility of playing one season at the Chatham, Va., school.

That unfortunetly is a fact and not really a joke!

According to a member on TI, Stover called Probst and told him he wouldn't be attending the All-Star game due to personal reasons. I'm sure Rush will blame JK tomorrow.

I'm hoping that Nikita will be this year's LeRon McLain. But if not, his plan to complete JC in five semesters and graduate in Dec 2005 will give him 4 years to play three. To do that though, he will have to start JC in June. Hopefully the reason he dropped out of the Ala-Miss allstar game was to study for the June 12 ACT test or to concentrate on academics at the JC.

He committed early to Bama and helped get the ball rolling with a good class. Sorry to see him waffling now, and even more so that he didn't qualify to enroll at Bama this fall.

Obviously he was not confident he could get the necessary 4 points on his ACT. As for what happens in 'O5, I say let's wait until then to worry about whether or not he chooses to come to Bama.

I haven't posted in some time, due to some foot surgery. I was home( Decatur, Al)over the weekend and talked to one of Nikita's teammates when he was at Danville High, before he transferred to Hartselle High. There is alot of discussion about him playing or not playing at Bama. That's all I am going to say, they all wish him well whereever he winds up. A lot of talking by the kids and coaches at Danville.

Looks like "Little" Nikita has decided to take the easy way out...

And how does a kid from Hoover High, the supposed "best school system in Bham" not qualify???

I remember when the experts said that Bama had the best Defensive Line signee class ever at Bama and maybe ever period back in 99. Then two of those signees Paine and Tyler never made it to Bama because of grades. And one Albert Means was the center of Bama's ugliest recruiting scandal and run in with the NCAA. He is now playing at Memphis.

This year Bama had possibly the best Wide Receiver signee class ever at Bama. Now supposedly the best one of the bunch is going to JC and says he is opening up his recruitment.

I am certainly more than happy with the wide receiver signees this year. Keith Brown, D. J. Hall, Will Oakley and Marcel Stamps should all be great Bama wide receivers. Reportedly all four of these wide receivers will make it to Bama. And if Ezekial Knight makes it to he could be a very talented wide receiver also.

I noticed in one of the articles that Stamps has been told to report in August. Personally I think the fact that Stover is already looking to go somewhere else after JC is proof that this years wide receiver class is outstanding.

Jeramie Holifield, DL was a late transfer to Hoover. I believe he only went there for his Senior year. Reportedly his grades were not in order before his transfer and even though he made progress he was not able to overcome the early situation.

According to a source close to him, the staffer responsible for his area did not maintain contact after it appeared that he would not qualify, and he apparently got miffed. All these kids with a #1 - #10 or so "best prospect" label (sometimes even lower than that) have egos that need a little stroking. Of course, this is just one side of the story...

him saying he is opening up his recruiting means nothing, every kid who goes to JC is officially back on the market by default. Even if he had said "I'm still going to Bama", these recruiting jeckels would be on him just the same.

Lets hope he eventually comes to bama, but qualifiation attrition is part of the landscape.
