LB Will Anderson ’we need to watch more film and make football the most important thing.’

I don’t think they are related but, Maybe NIL is detracting from play? Maybe across the board with the top teams, maybe an explanation why the top teams are not playing well?
Bery, bery interesting, you just might have a point here. One does wonder.

Chemistry and leadership among the players on both sides of the ball is what is missing. The ones that should be pointing the direction are pretty much shrinking violets at this point.

Najee, Mac, Smitty, Dickerson, Waddle among others provided that chemistry and leadership last year, probably more than we’ve seen years. And that is what got us to the finish line.

I think CNS alluded to some of this in fall camp and in the first couple of games. We need a couple of guys to step up.

Yes, play calling, poor tackling, bad decisions and lack of fundamentals are all problems. And that does fall to coaching and preparation. However, by the same token, at some point is does fall to the players. And the players have to hold each other accountable.

I think it speaks volumes when Will Anderson, a second year player, seems to be “the guy” on defense the coaches have the most faith in.

One last thing, then I’m on to Mississippi Southern! Georgia fans NEVER have to experience 90,000 screaming Gators in a stadium perfected for capturing and redirecting sound like BHG stadium. NFL stadiums are built more for amenities! Than intimidation . Plus half of the fans Are Dawgs. So take that lurking Dawg fans! You will never know what it’s like!

Wanted to address the complaints about the first half offensive play-calling after the 21-3 lead. Bama had 3 3-and-outs but it could not be considered conservative. 7 of the 9 plays were passes. IMO, the primary problem was that there were 2 sacks (including the IG call) and 3 of the 4 incompletions may have been drops (2 definitely were: Earle and Metchie, the 3rd I couldn't tell for sure even on the replay). The other incompletion was on an RPO where Bryce made a terrible read, JM had a gigantic hole, but Bryce kept it and missed on a route miscommunication with Williams. The two running plays gained 2 on a wide run and 5 on an interior run. One of the drops was the 45-50 yard pass on a scramble perfectly placed in Metchie's hands. All 2 or 3 drops were well-covered but the ball was placed where the WR could catch it.

The sequences were:

1: IG -6, inc pass (drop Earle), inc pass (possible drop Metchie)

2: 5 yard interior run, bad read - inc pass, 50 yd inc pass (drop by Metchie)

3: 2 yard run wide right, sack -3, comp pass to Metchie for 7 yds

Bama's receivers were often well covered, unlike last year with Smith and Waddle, who when covered almost always caught the ball anyway. Metchie and Bolden had a few drops last year and continue to have them this year.

But however one wants to characterize these sequences, Alabama did not go into a shell.

Then in Bama's 3 2nd half possessions Bama scored a TD, drove to the 1 and kicked a FG, then essentially ran out the clock. So, they were successful on all 3 possessions.

UF never had the ball with a chance win, only once with a chance to tie. Not counting the one poss with 4 secs left from their own 23.

Another note unrelated to the offense: this game was so close to being a comfortable win. On UF's first TD, which gave them hope, they had to go for a desperation 4th and 6, bailed out on a very questionable DPI call. On their next TD they had to convert a 4th and 1. Then the 99 yarder where they converted 3rd and 10 from their 1 where all Hellums has to do is make an easy tackle. The next drive required another 4th down conversion. Give UF credit for making them. There is also no doubt that Bama has some issues to address (esp ILB - again). But all in all it was not quite what it seemed at the end.

Was this supposed to make me feel better? :)

If you were feeling bad about a conservative lull after the first 3 drives, or even offensive play calling in general - yes :). Sorry it didn't work, I gave it my best shot.
It's possible my memory is distorted a bit by the number of times it seemed we futiley ran intra tackle on first down into a stacked box. Maybe there were not as many of those as I thought. When I have time, I'll go back and look more carefully along the lines you've set out...

In the 3 empty possessions, there were only 2 running plays, both on first down. The 2nd possession was a 5 yd run up the middle by JM on first down; in the 3rd possession there was a 2 yd end run by BR also on first down.

In the 2nd possession on 2nd and 5 after the run by JM, Bryce misread the D and did not hand off to JM who had a humongous hole, it would have been a very big gainer at least 10+ yards, could have gone much further. Here is a link to a modified CBS broadcast version: CBS Broadcast. It's just after the 44:10 broadcast time, ~9:00 left in 2nd qtr game time; watch the CBS replay of the down where they show the play from behind and you will see the tremendous hole. Probably Bryce's worst play of his young career.

You assume that the last play was a read option. Maybe it was, or maybe it was a pure run fake. Alabama runs a complex scheme on both sides of the ball. Sometimes what we see does not translate when we know the play call.

True. That was just my best guess, it looked like it to me and it was Danielson's take as well.

Also, do we not have running plays where the q-back lines up under center to take the snap. seems like that might help with crowd noise as well as helping the running game.

In yesterday's presser, Coach said BRob has sore ribs and is day to day. I doubt he plays Saturday, but does anyone remember a specific hit where he hurt his ribs? I know he got tackled funny early on, but that seemed like a leg/foot issue and he was back in the game in no time. Thanks!
