I guess I am confused with the excuses angle… excuses are what people use who lose…we did not. Noting the humidity which any person who has ever lived in central Florida can attest to and it is worse than any other place in the South, the inept officiating which is sadly been an SEC issue year in and out for a longtime now seem to be realistic reasons for a closer than usual game.

I`m sure the humidity`s bad there, no doubt, but one needs to try New Orleans in August and September. It`s the air you wear!

I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but Mullen has been game planning this since the end of last season; he wanted it badly. We literally took their best shot and came out on top playing a C-/D type game.
Yeah, after I cooled down and collected my thoughts, I realized, that this is Dan Mullen after all, he’s given us fits going back to the Dak Prescott days, in fact it was a little similar to the 2014 Mississippi State where we got out to a 19-3 lead but only won the game 25-20.

There are a lot of Alabama fans (not just on this board) who need a little bit of a reality check.
Do we expect the team to play perfect? Sure. That's natural, should be.
Now, when the team doesn't play perfect we get a bunch of fans who go haywire and act as if this is a sign of the end of days.
We have a qb who is started his third game of college football ever and really did not get many meaningful snaps last season. We replaced a lot of what was arguably the best receiver corps in Bama history.
We have a defense still trying to gel and an Oline in the same shape.
I really believe that due to a lot of factors and youth on the team being a factor, when we got up 21-3 the team felt like we had it won. I think the O Cord did, too.
We didn't play our best game. Far from it. But we went into a very hostile venue and played against a team and staff that likely put their whole off season into this one game and we came out with a win.
Like Golding or not, he is our D-coordinator. He cannot get out there on the field during the game and make our guys wrap up and make sure tackles. I would be willing to bet anyone on here that they preach this in practice.
Plus, if the offense had kept scoring instead of seemingly going into cruise control we wouldn't even be discussing PG.
The team needed this kind of game/win to wake them up to the fact that they need to play for 60 minutes. CNS has made mention of this issue before Mercer and before this game.
Sit back enjoy the ride and quit getting so stressed over something we have no control over as fans.
Does the team have things to work on? They sure do. But they're working on these things at 3-0.

Haha, checked the gator boards and there is literally a multipage thread about how the refs gave Bama the game, and its discussed in several other threads.

It's hilarious. :ROFLMAO:

I guess losing really does show people's true character.
I guess the refs must have called unnecessary Holding calls on the Gators……no, wait….

Maybe they missed some DPIs that could have been called….no, wait.

Maybe they mismanaged the clock in Bama’s favor…..no, wait

Again - and I could be 100% wrong - but if Bama had executed with the same intensity all four quarters that they did in the first, do you think you'd feel this way?

UF didn't just suddenly figure out how to play against a team stacked with better players - it takes two to tango...

If Bama had stayed intense and focused in the second quarter and we entered the half up 45-10 this discussion isn't happening. I believe Saban will fix this, and I think there's less to fix than initially seemed.
I'm more worried about the offense, TBF. I think our defense will catch up. Our play-calling turned virtually Shula-esque in the second quarter. Hard to watch, after the last several OCs...

Could that be because we got up by 2 TDs and we went vanilla? Then couldn’t turn it back on ?

I know Coach likes big leads and then ride it out. I wonder if Coach thought we had their number. Then got conservative.

Watching the game on TV (I was in person, so you miss stuff) it's hard to overstate how badly Christian Harris played. Too'to'o played poorly too, but Harris was a statue out there and if he was moving fast it was in the wrong direction.

That was a rough game.

Not here to hate on Golding. I understand players have to make plays. But since he has been here we have had similar issues as we did in this game. In particular ILBs who just seem beyond lost at times especially against the run. I know missing tackles and Safety and DL play also played a role but still seems like something has to be done about the ILB issue.

Thank god for Bryce Young and Will Anderson though. Anderson looks like he is close to blowing up every play. And Bryce has been way better than I anticipated (though he needs to work on his deep ball)

O’Brien called plays for the Texans, and I was having flashbacks. A playbook you can put on a 3 x 5 card.

Well LeBron47, I'm not sure about Florida, but in Southeast Texas, you start sweating just thinking about going outside.

My thoughts after having 2 days to process what I watched on Saturday:
1. We are spoiled as Bama fans. As spoiled as any fans in the history of college football. The Saban era is like nothing before it and I don't think will ever be replicated. It is better than the Bryant era.
2. This team lost so many valuable pieces from last year. Mac Jones - Best QB single season I have witnessed at Bama, Najee Harris - stud running back that could not only run it but could block and catch it out of the backfield as good as any running back I have seen at Bama, Devonta Smith - best wide receiver of the Saban regime (I am sure some of you are saying Julio or Amari were better as you read), Waddle - nothing like him, Leatherwood - 4 year starter on the o-line, Deonte Brown - mountain of a man at guard, Landon Dickerson - hard to explain how much of a difference he made for that team, Christian Barmore - what a beast by the end of the season and Patrick Surtain - one of the best DB's of the Saban era. You don't just replace all of these guys and move on like nothing happened. That team last year was historic offensively and played some defense during the playoff.
3. Bryce Young is not Mac Jones. Bryce is at 62.9% for completion percentage. Mac was at 77%. Mac was unreal. Bryce is just not that accurate. He does not put the ball in good spots on most of his throws.
4. This o-line could not sniff the jock strap of last years unit. Not many could.
5. We have no difference maker so far on the d-line. There is no Barmore, Quinnen Williams, etc.
6. Bill O'Brien < Steve Sarkisian. Granted Sark had Smith, Harris, Waddle, Jones, etc., etc. etc.

The bottom line for me is that we expect too much from Bama. Each year. Teams just don't dominate the way Bama has dominated over these last 12 years. And we cannot expect this years team to be anywhere near the level of that team from last year.
I will say that I kept hearing during the preseason that this might be one of Saban's best defenses. Not by a mile.

I had concerns prior to the season if the lack of a first round draft choice on the defensive line would be a significant weakness for this team considering the number of Bama front seven players in the NFL today. I had thought that Henry To'oTo'o would make a big difference in the middle but that was obviously not the case with the pre snap movement we saw with Florida. I agree that the defense can improve from here but I don't see a Quinnen Williams like player in the mix.

It is as difficult to seamlessly replace a Sarkisian or a Kiffin overnight but obviously with O'Brien's background that could improve very quickly.

I thought it would be tim smith, but he hasn't played that much and ineffective when he has, it is a puzzlement
