Need everybody to go checkout the thread on Josh Pate’s comments. Very enlightening perspective from without.
The 2015-6 Alabama team "would dog walk this Alabama team. And then stand over them and dare them to do anything."
And, "There's just this little chalk outline on the ground right now where Bama used to be."

I really like Josh Pate. He's honest, funny, knows his history, and how everything fits.

That said, I'm not watching that. I know exactly what he's going to say and he's right about it.

The only thing about the barn is, we don't have to go to voodoo stadium. Since the $camback in 2010, they have not been able to generate that kind of flukey madness in our stadium that they do at home. If they come in with a recruiter as acting HC, a depleted roster, and barely a coaching staff and beat us....yeah....to say we won't ever live it down would be a massive understatement

The defense has been substandard from the moment Pete Golding was hired. At least 2020 had leadership and pride. Since 2020 the program has a nose dive, but Bryce Young has been able to cover a lot of that up. The team could have *easily* lost 5 regular season games last year (2 point win against UF, 6 point win against LSU, 7 point win against Arkansas, 2 point win against AU in addition to the loss to TAMU. Bama could easily have 4 losses this year.

2020 won every game easily and only one game was ever in doubt.
2019 lost the only two games that were ever in doubt and one was to one of the greatest teams ever and the other was with a backup QB in the Voodoo bowl.
2018 won every game comfortably until the championship.
2017 lost to AU and had a close game against MSU.
2016 won every game until the championship. Ole Miss was very close but that's the only game that was in doubt.
2015 lost to Ole Miss by 6 at home. Fluke game with 5 turnovers and an unsettled QB. After that Bama won every game with only 2 being close (UT and Clemson).

So before 2021 Bama would have 1 or 2 games that were close. Now it is every. frickin'. away. game. AND some of the home games against bad teams.

It used to be when Bama lost you thought, "Dang, if we could play them again I know we'd win!" but now it's like, "Glad that's over".
That's my point since Golding has been here. I'm really worried about next season if both coordinators return. I believe offensively we're in trouble. Defensively same thing . I really hope we get a new off coordinator with some innovation. None of this under 5 seconds every play. The one thing I don't get is earlier in the season coach said when we run it fast we're better. And I swear Bob slowed it down even more.

I really like what he had to say honestly. Makes me feel a little better now. Hope coach does what he has to do which I believe he will.

He said a lot more than this. 😂 Funny that this is what you chose to quote out of all he said.

I know I see where some was saying the change in philosophy on offense and on defense. I think the change in philosophy on offense has been pretty good and it needed to change with this day and age in college football. Throw away the last couple years. I think the defense changing to more of a 335 setup is what's hurt us the most. And really the last few games is more of a 245 of setup. And I hope that's just due to injuries. And that's why I believe we're getting pushed around more on the defensive line anyhow. I wish we would go back to more of a 4-3 style of defense stop the run and play more man coverage and make them beat you through the air. I believe you will get more turnovers that way. Just my two cents.

No one with any sense believes that anymore. It’s UGA. They’re the standard now.
This year maybe. However in the last 12 months I think the record is 1&1 and minus a Jameson injury might well be 2&0. I’d like some more physical presence in the middle of the D and a more productive o-line but don’t think the sky is falling just yet.

The question for me is this: Monken primarily spent his time in the NFL as a offensive position coach/OC. Same holds true for BOB.

What’s the difference?

The difference is really two fold in my mind. Monken schemes and calls plays suitable to the personnel he has. They have three TEs (actually 4) that would start anywhere. They run out a formation with all three. Bowers, Gilbert, and Washington are physical enough to blow you off the field in the run game like extra tackles, but also fast enough with a size advantage to offer mismatched with LB’s and safeties. Look at their wide outs - one or two guys that have the speed, but then a guy like McConkey that is a great route runner and makes the catch when you need it.

Monken also has the ability to “play to his defense”. He knows if they get 30 points, it most assuredly a win, especially the last couple of years. He doesn’t need to throw it all over the field. He does an excellent job of recognizing the strengths of his personnel and executing with it.

BOB, on the other hand, not so much. Only thing BOB recognizes is if his halftime hot dogs have too much mustard on them.

One add to this: how often has any color guy during the course of one of our games said “wow that was excellent play design! They got the mismatch they were looking for”? No it usually “Amazing, Young kept the play alive long enough for the receiver to uncover”.

Monken designs plays for his personnel that gives them the edge. BOB just simply calls plays and hopes something good happens.

After the penalty, 2nd and 8:, start of second qtr. probable pass down.. 2 down linemen WA at RDE, DJ Dale NT, TS at LDE, DT in Sam. backend in a match zone or combo coverage. I actually couldn’t tell because mistakes were made in coverage. I think it was man to the outside but 42 ran with the wideout, either he didn’t trust #1, or it was match zone. The TE, went in motion and 42 followed him Which told me possible combo??AF0EA2D8-C9CD-4C0D-8CF6-901B453981FE.jpegA74B34A0-66A8-4C28-BFF3-C8BC1571C637.jpegEB0DDFCB-2943-4215-AB3A-1A0A9A62E057.jpegplay resulted in big gain for first down.

Next play, second down &10 , 2 down linemen DT, TS, DJD, and Will Anderson. With DT with his hand in the dirt in the LDE spot. The play results in a loss of 1 because 42 came on a run blitz when the TE vacated the area to be a lead blocker. 775443F9-ADE3-4E01-AA9D-E5CED6B6533D.jpeg
for people saying we are not as strong, watch Dallas Turner destroy the 2 guys, Tackle and guard, 600 pounds pushed back. Also watch Anderson get held around the neck

That’s our base defense folks. Wonder why we are getting pushed around, 2 of the d linemen are less than 250 pounds , giving up 50-70 pounds . By the third-fourth quarter that has to take its toll. I understand the concept, moving guys around making it hard to double, speed on the field, etc. but that cant be all we do. Want to know why Georgia is more physical at the point of atttack. It’s not hard to understand. I had my Granddaughter all weekend, so I didn't get around to breaking down the game like I usually do. I just reviewed the first quarter. I counted 3 snaps with 3 actual down linemen.

Makes you wonder why any 5* defensive line prospect would even consider Alabama.
