Elsewhere, prior to the game I was discussing DeBoer's habit of getting into close games. He has a remarkable ability to win them, but the ability to finish off an opponent or dominate an inferior opponent is something that's a bit of a rarity. This is what has to change in order for him to have success that Alabama's talent warrants. It isn't a question of whether or not he can knock off top teams, of course he can. It's consistent domination that he hasn't mastered.

For instance in 2022 at Washington, with some elite offensive talent, he showed the upside, he knocked off a very talented 10 win Oregon team @ Oregon. He also lost to a 3 win Arizona St. team. The following year, Washington had 8 one score games! Some of those were against very good teams, some really kind of surprising wins against Oregon and Texas, but I was following them closely (hoping for a loss to make it easier for Alabama to get into the playoff), and... it felt like they were constantly on the verge of losing. You can't get away with that in the SEC.

I had perhaps an overly negative reaction to DeBoer's hiring, but I was familiar with his team and I just wasn't as impressed as some people were (though he was still on my list of potential hires). The high ceiling is there, he can do great things, but he darn sure has to raise his floor. Part of that might entail figuring out how he can reinstall Saban's defense.

Not gonna read too much into this one with regards to defense. We are far from the first team to struggle against the option. I'm still not too concerned. We probably can't lose 3 games anymore and still make the playoffs, but we should still be in with 2. The Georgia win helps out a lot

Same thing happened in 2012. We walked it off at LSU. Celebrated that win all week instead of prepping for TAMU. They came in hot and by the time we woke up, it was too late. Still won the natty that year though. So...Chin up.... Ball up top. Roll Tide.
