My personal opinion is that Alabama needs to struggle ton more as a program to regain the requisite fight. USC went through this (still going this, some may argue...) after reaching their peak under Pete Carroll.I think this is the root of the problem, and I've thought so for years now.
We can talk about details, schemes, strategy, etc. But I think the root cause of all of this is entitlement.
We DO have more talent than almost any other program in the country. To be fair, certain spots are young (secondary).
Vanderbilt is the least talented program in the SEC and almost always is. I dare say they will not finish with a winning record this year, even after what they did to us, but certainly won't be better than 7-6 after a possible bowl game. They lost to Georgia State! But what they do have is a hard nosed attitude, hard working, take nothing for granted, and will fight you for 60 minutes.
Alabama does not have this. And we have not had this on a consistent basis since 2020. Oh, if the opponent is right, or if an opponent mouth's off in the week leading up to a game, oh sure we will play with our hair on fire. Otherwise, we are sloppy, lazy, and entitled. I don't know how you fix that in today's environment.
If there are other options, then some sort of better ID'ing future players with the right mindset, even with the influence of NIL. NIL will be in the picture for the foreseeable future, and that is a different world than the one we all grew up watching and being a part of. I don't like it either, but it is what it is.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Alabama is in a transition of schemes and players. These changes would've occurred even if NIL wasn't in the picture. We won't really see the true CKD impact until 2-3 years from now - there is a decreasing amount of residual programming from CNS that stays around. How CKD uses that to his advantage to continue the success remains to be seen.
