I remember specifically asking how this rule wouldn't screw us. The consensus was that we seldom tackle below the knees, and the moment the passer starts running, he loses the protection of that rule.

I've seen numerous off balance below the knee tackles this season (specifically against Dobbs) where the defender was falling down towards the qb but got him. I'd yet to see the call, so I figured the refs were just like "screw it."

Good to know they remembered it when we played.

The rule is well intended, but if you look his initial contact was on the Thigh--well above the knee. He avoided low...and still was penalized. I don't complain about officiating, but that crew was bad all the way around. At least the game didn't hinge on them.

That's sorta how I feel. Maybe I'm one the biggest fans of kiffin's offense, and that's why many disagree with certain positive things I post here and say in my viewing party that are positive in some of the things that seem odd that he does. But I think our biggest advantage we have over teams is that we have an early 2000's style USC offense with a better than average defense. Don't get me wrong, we have highly talented defensive players that will be 1st or 2nd round picks, but the defense as a whole is more of a bend but don't break defense rather than a 2011 dominating defense. Having Kiffin's style of offense with the amount of talent there as well makes it where we are never truly out of the game despite trailing. If we win the next 3 games then we are in extremely good shape.

I liked his "flawed" characteristic...
So far this Alabama defense reminds me a little of the Saints defense the year they won the Super Bowl. That defense did give up big plays, but they also made some really big plays. Obviously I think this Alabama defense is better relatively speaking, but this defense doesn't have to shut a team out to win the game. They can give up the big play and then go out and get those points right back.

This is a post from a Hog board. I thought it pretty accurate...

I liked his "flawed" characteristic...
I remember in Sabans early years as our coach how he kept saying, "We need to find ways to get more explosive plays. Well, insert CLK, and explosive plays have become the norm. It seems he has a talent for figuring out ways to get players open both in the running and passing game. CLK's play calling may be flawed in some ways but they're extremely good.

Texas A&M was tied with Arkansas until a minute left in the 3rd quarter. We owned Arkansas the whole game and they just blew them out in the 4th.

Exactly, and it was in Fayetteville. Arky should have beaten A&M in my opinion but stupid blunders cost them the game. Those same blunders with Bama got you blown out in the first half. That's the difference in Bama and mostly everyone else.

I think this sums up how many of us fans felt watching the game. There were some rebuttals to the negative comments, but I don't think anyone here can honestly believe we'll win out if we have the defensive performance in coverage that we had last night.

Secondary was a liability, they play this way against uterd and the outcome will be different. Hope CNS rips them all a new one in practice this week. RTR

I think that was an off season rule change we discussed here. Tackling the passer at or below the knees is now a penalty

I thought the Brady Rule was put in place to take out guns away.

Thanks. That's it. Looks like the QB has to be in a "passing position" and there has to be "forcible contact" below the knees. I think there is also an exception if the defender is blocked into the QB. This blocking exception could be argued in the Bama penalty though the defender didn't get blocked into the QB as much as he got his feet knocked out from under him so he was blocked into the QB's knees.

This is one of those frustrating penalties even if the refs got it right because the defender didn't really have control at the point of contact due to the Arkansas blocker.

Really? No, no one is saying fire the best coach in CFB history, some of us are just asking what the problem is....Geesh, if we play like tonight next week, UCheat will score 1,000....then will TAM and the barn....we have serious issues......we.do. I am at a loss for words at the D performance tonight given our "supposed" talent and yes, coaching.
Dobbs ain't half the passer Allen is. Sloppy top has a better running game, but that plays to Bama's strength.
I was fishing so couldn't see the game; how many points did the hogs score on the twos and threes?

Why does this thread sound like the Ole Miss thread last year, we did win didn't we?

Yeah Im beginning to think these threads are "melting while you still won" threads.
Don't get me wrong, we played poorly at times...but suddenly Tennessee, A&M, LSU, and Auburn are all title contenders waiting to knock us off?

Glad we started 6-0, that way we assure bowl eligibility before we finish the season 2-4. (Blue font for those not quite up to speed)

Tennessee I don't know how to gauge them even with their injuries and their first loss. They will play us tough, and it could be a Prilosec game or just a butt spanking. Emotions could be very high, and Neyland will be jumping. So it is imperative to silence them and keep our foot on the gas. So I just don't know.

aTm is a joke that for whatever reason ever since the Arky-aTm game a bunch on here is thinking that they are better than Ole Miss. Here is a telling stat... A good many on here is very dismissive on Tennessee's offense , and totally sold on aTm's defense , but aTm had 34 missed tackles in that game while Alabama has had 24 all year. Trevor Knight is horrible under pressure, and his only unique aspect is his legs. Point is aTm is the same aTm from last year with a slightly better qb

Auburn... We will know after the Ole Miss game, but they could be an 8 win team with the posers on their schedule

LSU is a concern because at the present moment they seem to be a more motivated team, and they have always had elite talent. So who knows what team we will have to face in Baton Rouge?

It's that Championship Drive to perfection from our Player's, Coaching Staff & down to us Bama Fans that's helped take "Bama Football" to a level never witnessed in college football..It's that kinda "Drive & Passion" to perfection that keeps churning out W's as we continue "The Process" on another NC Run In T-Town..It is what it is & wouldn't want it any other way..

Some where out there
Well i know we have some areas still to improve on mainly the secondary but I found this post on a Hogs forum. Apparently their fans are really impressed.

"It just looked bama was playing 11 on 7 when they had the ball."

"One reason was they were actually blocking our guys down field. Bama looked like every player could bench press a car. I seen their running backs push our guys to the ground with one hand."

Its nice to know even though we see some weak areas other fanbases still see dominance.

Sure hope Reuben Foster can play next week because we will definitely need him on defense. I still don't understand why our secondary issues seem to be a problem for several years now. Thank goodness for Minkah yesterday!

the good thing is our current defense puts points on the board. i think we had 4 n.o.t's in all of 2011. we already have have 9, halfway through this season.
