I'm pretty bewildered out how pleased some of you are with THAT performance. We have played 2 ranked SEC teams and here are our Defensive stats:

Ole Miss: 43 points, 522 yards, 421 yards Passing 3 passing TD's 23 1st Downs
Arkansas:30 points, 473 yards, 400 yards Passing 3 passing TD's 25 1st Downs

Averages:36.5 PPG, 498 YPG, 411 Passing YPG 3 Passing TD's PG and 24 1st Downs PG!!!!???

Tenn and A&M will both be ranked and both have Mobile QB's and quality receivers. LSU and Auburn could be ranked when we play either.

I'm not too confident in this Defense getting past all those tests. If we win any kind of Title this year it will be because we won a bunch of Shootouts.

Is the SEC the BIG XII now?? Quality defense just isn't a thing anymore??

I would have been more happy with a 19-0 win than 49-30. The Defense is just embarrassing.
I agree with all of this.

Can someone explain the roughing the passer call for Bama "tackling the QB low"? Was it because the tackler hit the QB low from the front vs low from behind? (And why is it called roughing the passer when the QB still had the ball?)

It's not just that it's the rules too. The RPO has changed fball along with tempo. Saban has mentioned over and over and over. He asked "Do we want basketball on grass?" Why do you think lane is the OC? Why is Jalen Hurts the starter? Why are we spreading out the opposition? CNS has adapted and this is the new norm. Very clear areas to work on but the 6-3 type game, like you said, will be when teams try to play in hurricanes.

Nick Saban warned this would be what the game would turn into. The rules have allowed the game to turn into what it is today. The rules put the offense at such an advantage the competitive balance of the game has become tilted too far one direction. But until the rules are changed Saban almost has no choice but to adapt to the rules. If not you become Les Miles.

Its real simple, the crew that did this game worked highschool football on Friday night. He was not a passer, he was a player with the football and you tackle them. QB's are only protected when they are passing the football and this guy was running for his life.

It's trickle down from the Brady rule in the NFL. You can't hit a QB from the shoulders up, or the knees down anymore. It's a much tougher call for the low hit because usually the rusher is only down there because the blocker forced him there, as was the case tonight. It's a tough call to swallow, but we better get used to it because player safety calls are just going to get more restrictive as time passes.

Tennessee is not better than Arkansas, offensively. Allen is a better QB than Hurts. UT has more dynamic RBs but that's it.
The Vols had 7 turnovers, they should have won the game. aTm beat Arky about the same, so that tells me that we have some work to do. Getting 30 points and 300 yards passing is not a good day for the defense overall. We have aTm, Vols, Auburn and LSU remaining. All may be better teams. At some point the defense is not going to spot us 14 points, which would have made this a very close game. Arkansas is the 5th best team in the league imo.

Improvement on defensive passing, and offense getting the ball to Rid, Stew, OJ and Diet.

Bielema did keep his starters in after the game was clearly out of reach and it got them a TD. If I'm Saban I remember that and run the score up on him next year in Tuscaloosa.
The difference is that Saban recognizes that building experienced depth is more important than payback - I kept thinking while Allen continued to play, what happens when he goes down?

If our players are injured, more often than not the backups have at least some game experience, because Saban isn't worried about anything other than performance and by extensions winning. Leaving starters in is counter to that, something Bert could learn something about...

Halfway through the fourth quarter and the stadium was almost completely empty of Arkansas fans. They started piping in crowd noise over the PA sytstem. It gave me a good chuckle. 😂

Bert needs to learn to push away from the table. I watched he post game presser and it looks like he's literally put on 50 lbs since he's been at Arky.

I agree, but I question how up they players were for this game after it started looking like a blowout in the first half. I think they lost concentration at times. They have already shown they can fight in big games in the comeback against Ole Miss.

You Might be from Alabama, if ...
You're the defending national champions.....you're 6-0....you're ranked number 1 .....you just beat the 16th ranked team on the road in what was essentially a blowout.....and you think the sky is falling.

Did the secondary miss some? Yes. Horrible? Not really. On some the coverage was perfect and their guys made the throw and the catch. The first TD was on the staff. They HAD TO call a timeout when Ryan Anderson went out wide against freaking Sprinkle. I'm guessing no one so it but I was screaming ;)

The other thing was some serious push offs. It's rarely called in when the crew is as bad as this one is they'll do it nonstop and they did. You could tell the guys were getting ticked off about it.

I know they take pride in their work so I expect they will be plenty motivated this week on their own. coach won't have to rail too much.

On a side not CBB is getting on my nerves now. Man did he belly ache from start to finish.

I don't think it was so much poor play as a lack of intensity. Seemed like Bama knew from the jump they had this game in hand and (especially on D) turned it up only when it was needed.

Texas A&M was tied with Arkansas until a minute left in the 3rd quarter. We owned Arkansas the whole game and they just blew them out in the 4th.

Even with the mistakes we dominated Akransas. It was never in question. We are super talented on both sides of the ball. Just need to clean up some things and when/if Hurts starts settling into the passing game we will win the national championship.

This was a much easier win than I or Vegas expected. We covered the spread and left points on the field. I feel really good about our team.
