Game Thread: Oklahoma - Oklahoma State

May be wrong but I don't think every coach gets a vote.

You're correct. 59 coaches have a vote, including Stoops, Gary Pinkel, Paul Rhoads, and Tommy Tubberville from the Big 12, and Saban, Chizik, Miles, Spurrier, and Franklin from the SEC. It will be very interesting to see some of the choices when the final poll is published!!

So if we dont get in, do the optimistic ones get to take time off? :-)

At the end of the day I think both camps feel we would beat Okie State..... I personally think we beat them 30-20. I just think winning your division and conference should mean something. Kinda like baseball back in '93 when 103 win Giants team got left out even though they won the 2nd most games in baseball.

That said, if enough voters keep us number two, I'll be there in the Superdome cheering for BAMA on January 9th.

I used to feel that way (gotta win your conference). But with all the outcry for a playoff, and the fact that a playoff does not require you to win your conference in any sport, I don't feel that way anymore. Funny thing is, most of these people (if not all) that want a playoff, are the same ones screaming "you should win your conference."

WE BLEW IT.

GET OVER IT.

We had the chance to remove the SUBJECTIVE aspect of the BCS from the picture, and we didn't do it.

THAT is the point.

Has we handled our business, we wouldn't have to worry about the subjective voters.

But we do.

No matter how much you believe Bama is the best or second best team in the country, it doesn't matter. once we lost on 11/5, we left it in the hands of other folks

So yah, we blew it. Any argument otherwise is merely emotion.

That's not the way the BCS is supposed to work. I know good and well that we "blew it," but I will not get over my alma mater being railroaded by a biased and bored media.

Neither should you.

If Gundy was playing games, unless he's truly stupid, then why did he say what he did last week?
Gundy's game is totally transparent and he had nothing to lose. By saying OSU didn't deserve #2 and listing reasons he made himself look impartial and objective. When he changes his mind, it gives the impression the victory over OU should overshadow the loss to ISU and that other voters should do that too.

Spot on analysis!

Call me old fashioned but, I think a playoff should include conference winners only. Now, that's not the system we currently have so, if we get the votes, we deserve to go.

Does anyone know if we have to wait until 7pm to see the polls? I was thinking they held them till then. I wonder if coaches will 'leak' their ballots.

Another thought, if we are 3 in the BCS but still 2 in the AP, would we jump to 1 should Okie St beat LSU? Imagine the debate then..

Nothing OSU did tonight changes ANYTHING he said.

I think he's just amped and probably got some backlash for his honesty last week, so he's pushing OSU tonight.

If it was some 'plan' surely there'd be something more than 'we lost to an unranked team while they lost to the #1 team'...

And any coach who comes up with 'plans' as goofy as this, would surely have an epic fail gameplan against LSU or Bama.

No other playoff requires you to win your conference. Not Division 1AA football, not basketball, not baseball, and not pro sports (conferences are won via playoffs, then the league championship is played).

I know I'm in the minority, just put importance on the regular season. Would love all FBS teams in 8 conferences and 8 champions in playoffs. Yeah I know it means a current non AQS team is in every year but, kinda like March Maddness it would be kinda cool.

You're right. Prior to the game I said that I would accept whatever happened, even if that meant OSU winning big in getting in over Bama. I just didn't think they would.

At the end of the day, whoever gets left out of the BCS title game has NO room to complain. Alabama lost control of our fate when we lost to LSU, and OSU, when they lost to Iowa State. We want to see our team do well, but we are going to a BCS bowl. Its been a successful season, let's allow the chips to fall where they may.

All I am saying is keep your heads and don't be so anxious to throw in the towel... In other words, think (and act) like Champions..

Two caveats: If LSU had lost their game against Georgia, the tiggers would still have gone to the BCS Championship game without having won their conference. And nary a word of complaint would come from the mouth of the press. Next, the best way, IMHO, to avoid another situation similar to this year is for the SEC to forego the East/West divisions (which, unfortunately, will never happen). In truth, this is the only way that insures the top two teams will go to the SEC Championship game. The Western division, by far, is the strongest in the SEC right now. And as a result, Alabama, due to their loss to the Baton Rouge Stooge (CLM), is placed in the position of "wait 'n' see" status, while Georgia went to Atlanta and got their _ _ _ handed to them.

For some reason, I think OSU should be punished for having a second bye week in their schedule this year. I feel the Bedlam game should have been played last week. Unfair scheduling, imo.

I agree. I've always thought that you shouldn't be able to play a regular season game on the same weekend that the other conferences are playing conference championship games. It's unfair for the BCS and it is unfair for the Heisman voting.
