Ole Miss Ranking Thoughts

From what I've seen thus far it looks like The Top Three and the 160 Dwarfs.

You've Florida, UTexas, and Bama, and then there's a huge drop off in my opinion. And I actually wasn't overly impressed with Texas.

sip

Texas got a HUGE break in officiating last night.....when their #4 nearly took the head of the TT QB with his helmet.........he should have been penalized, and possibly ejected for a spearing call....that was horrible......and they kept showing it over and over in slow motion, it was sort of vicious.

Perhaps, but Texas clearly had the better team...

They had their starters in for almost the whole game and still were not impressive and SE La shot themselves about 4-5 times .......... Ol sis is much like the barn very pretty playing scrubs but the true team will surface when they hit the SEC sled...

I actually think they are deserving of it, at this moment in time. IF they had 1-2 more minutes to play in last yr's game in BDS, there is a very good chance that they would have beaten us. Of course, that's a big 'if'....

College football is played in four 15 minute quarters.

If the game against UF was only 45 minutes, we would have played for the national championship.

Didnt UM lose to Vandy and SC last year as well?

But at this point, they are still undefeated. Untested and undefeated.

I think the real question is how they got up to #6 in the preseason.

They'll be exposed. But so far it's nice to have 3 of the top 4 teams in the AP top 25 from the SEC and 3 of the top 7 in the AP top 25 from the SEC West.

We'll find out awfully soon. I think there defense has holes and I think we will beat them. I'm not convinced Snead is as good as a lot of people say he is. I think if we get in his face and rattle him then we win.

:biga2:So. Carolina at home could be interesting. GameCocks have time to work on its offense with FAU but Ole Miss has had three weeks with three weak teams. Until Alabama Ole Miss stays put.:biga:

I'm not drinking the Ole Miss koolaid, but it still will be a tough one for USC. Defense does get 3 players back from suspensions, two of them starters, but their best DL went out early against UGA and it has shown since.

On bright side, USC offense has come to life and Spurrier finally seems to have the qb he has been looking for since arriving here in Garcia, so USC should be able to score against Ole Miss. Also, don't forget USC upset Ole Miss in Oxford last year, so it's not like it can't happen.

If USC's special teams stop leaving points on the field and/or giving up points, then USC wins. If special teams play doesn't improve, Ole Miss stays in top 5.

Spurrier is still usually good for one unexpected win per year. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it came against Nutt, who's usually good for at least one unexpected loss every year.

:biga:I would not be surprised if ole miss is our hardest team to beat all of this entire season it was to close for comfort last year and ole miss has stockpiled some talent over the last three or so seasons something to the nature that is almost to good to be true at ole miss would not be suprised to see some new faces on campus asking a few questions of course im not accusing its along the lines of suspicion like a case of law where things just look to good to be 100% on the up and up but if Bama dont win the west i will have to say it would be nice to see ole miss have one good season every so often if of course Bama is down that same year lets see some clean play and the better man win with no injuries.

Dadgum, man, you late for a meeting or something? Slow down a little, and take a breath every once in awhile!

You got it right there + a pretty good bowl showing. They won't get demoted until they get beaten. All the voters also know there's a showdown coming with us, when the legitimacy of the rankings will be tested...

Yep, the beating they put on Texas Tech impressed a lot of people. I know, I know, it's the Big 12, they don't play defense there. Also, I can't say how many times I've heard the pundits on how they played us to the wire and could have won with the final possession (um, they didn't - hello?). They are winning, they're hot, and they basically returned the right amount of certain players to be the sexy, popular pick.

I definitely think the rankings will be occasionally skewed in order to pit two top ten, or top five, teams against one another. That equals a ratings bonanza and plenty of material for the 24 hour sports sites to opine about.

Prior to all that, though, let's see if they can handle business against a dangerous South Carolina team, on a short week's preparation.

All the pieces are there for OM to be ranked, not sure about how high but expect them to play Bama like it's the Super Bowl.

They have the power of a good finish last year and a great schedule this year, they should be ranked in the top 10 and until proven otherwise (Oct. 10) they will stay there because I don't see USC or Vandy beating them.

The oddsmakers in Vegas are giving the edge to SC. That shows how much they think about Ole Miss's ranking. #4 teams in the nation should never be a -3.5 underdog to an unranked team, even if it is on the road, unless that #4 team shouldn't be the #4 team. I think we can all agree that Vegas usually knows what they're doing.

OM plays at SC this week. SC isn't a world-beater, but they should give a good accounting of themselves at home. If OM gets past SC, they then travel to Vandy, then home against us. Because of SOS calculations I hope they'll remain undefeated until we play them.

Bingo, this is really good for us. Even if they are overrated let them stay that way until we whupum. :)
