Oregon over Oklahoma please (NOPE!)

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

If you read the tweets from the players.."I pity da fool!"

I don't do the twitter thing, but words are meaningless unless they are backed up on the field. I remember it being a big deal to have the slogan "Never Again" after blowing a 24 point lead to AU. Well, it wasn't 24, but we did blow a 14 point lead to a team that shouldn't be within a couple of scores of us when comparing just talent. That, however, is the key point- when comparing talent. Talent alone doesn't win games and neither does big talk. I hope to see us beat our opponent in the Sugar Bowl like we beat Michigan St. that year because I actually did start to pity those fools.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

I haven't watched Oklahoma too much this season, but they remind me some of Ole Miss with a favorable conference schedule.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

While I do understand that Oklahoma has normally looked terrible in big games lately, I wonder why you think the guys in the Oregon jerseys are any better. Any time Oregon plays a team with any semblance of a defense and/or physical presence they seem to lose. If we play like we are capable of playing, we should beat either OU or Oregon by more than two scores. However, we still haven't played to our capabilities for an entire game this year, so either team is also very capable of beating us. Personally, I would rather play OU since Big Mouth Bob kept running his pie-hole about the SEC this year.

This.

Oregon played two decent defenses this year and were DOMINATED in them. I'd like to shred them to shut them up but we've got a little bidness with ol' Stoopsy too. I'm hoping I can make it down there for the game.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

If bowl committees were about the game instead of making sure that all their business ventures in lodging, food services, and bars have a banner week then we'd get this game. Instead, we're going to get an OU team who probably doesn't even think they deserve a BCS bid.

Furthermore, it is an absolute joke that the Big-12 could end up with two bids. That is the worst real AQ conference (not counting the AAC) while the Pac-12 is the best outside the SEC. Do the right thing Sugar Bowl Committee.

I agree with everything except the part in bold. IMO, the Big 10/12/14 is worse that the Big 12/10. Not by much, though.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

Playing Oklahoma would be just as boring as playing Utah was. For many teams, the bowl system is a great way to end the season on a high-note. But for this squad, that had every opportunity to beat Auburn and no doubt cruise past that pitiful Mizzou squad, the bowl is a sorry parting gift. I'm sorry to say that. I will still watch the game and pull for the Tide, but I think it's a fact that this game is meaningless for the Tide. Win and the trophy will collect dust in the shadow of the crystal balls, lose and you're nationally humiliated. I don't consider 11-1 a failure, but the bowl doesn't have any impact on my opinion of this team's season. 12-1 or 11-2 holds no importance to me.

And sidewalk fans hold no importance to me.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

When we beat Michigan State after the 2010 season, we got some good momentum going into the spring. Playing OU might do the same for this team. After the Barn game, I don't think this team will be un-motivated.

I think the players are p...ticked! It would not surprise to see another MSU type beat down.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

I'll put it this way: I'm going to get my student ticket if it is Oregon. I might go to NOLA but not bother with the game if it is Oklahoma. Probably not though, I'll just watch at home. This isn't the 70s. I don't care that much about us playing Oklahoma in a glorified exhibition. If it is going to be just an exhibition with no national titles on the line, exhibit a matchup that I care about being in person to see.

Suit yourself. This is precisely the attitude CNS and Miss Terry were talking about. Did you watch what AZ did to that Oregon team? You want to talk about exhibitions...

I guess I won't be getting the christmas card this year.

Nah I'm not dogging you. Sorry if it appears that way. I'm more referring to nothing matters once we can't play for the crystal. I felt the same way in 08 when the SB could have gotten TX and we got the Utes. Everyone was down including the players and it showed. In 2010 they used the Cap One as a thrashing session that set up the title run next year. I'm hoping we can do the same this year regardless of the opponent. FWiW I wanted Oregon too but OK is a decent consolation.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

I mean, I'm glad our team gets the opportunity to play in a big venue in January. Beats the heck out of the years where I traveled to Shreveport on terrible December drizzly days like today. I just have to weigh the value in regards to my own pocketbook when deciding to go on an expensive trip for a football game. Oregon would do it for me. Oklahoma and Oregon didn't finish as decisive high-quality, playoff-caliber teams. Maybe they're about equal but I'm really low on the football product the Big-12 has been putting out the last few years (especially compared to the Pac-12).

We don't get to play teams from the West Coast much anymore, so an opportunity where I could reasonably afford to go see the game is exciting to me. Oklahoma just doesn't do it for me. They can play with us but I'm just not stoked so much to see the game that I'll pay a decent chunk of money for a student to take in the experience.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

Yep. I'm enjoying this one from home. Not getting a dime of my money, NOLA.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

Personally, I think I would've liked to play Michigan State the most even though it was never in the picture. But I will be happy to watch us play Oklahoma. I know they're not the best team, but no team gets to #11 without being somewhat decent. I've seen too many teams give up wins against "Slightly better than average" ranked teams. Let's get the win and hope AU loses.

Re: Oregon over Oklahoma please

A Sugar Bowl win is still a big win. I'll just hope to enjoy that win from my Tuscaloosa confines. We play the ACC, Big Ten, or Big-12 in all our bowls...so I'm just not hyped about it as much as Pac-12 v. SEC.
