Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

also, based on some of his quotes, it sounds like there are probably going to be severe grade requirements as well before he is allowed to sign. with the new limit on signees, this makes a lot of sense, instead of just having people sign no matter what there chances were.
From what I have heard he only needs a couple of points on his ACT test and he has a tutor. His coach seems to think he is on track and working hard towards qualifying. The latest reports are that he is current 349 lbs and he wants to be down to 320 by the time he gets to Bama.

IMHO, this kid is vastly underrated. It's only one game but check out the video below. He could develop into a dominant left tackle.

That is the first video I have seen of Brandon. He has good feet and quickness for a really big man. I think once he gets in the S & C program and adds muscle and loses about 20-25 lbs like DJ did he will be a very good one.

the kid is huge, but for someone with his size and stature, the video highlights don't really impress me THAT much. he's lining up against kids 150 lbs. smaller than him. i expect pancakes and driving kids 5-10 yards downfield. i didn't see very much of either. good looking prospect, but he seems very raw.

Yes, he looks good, but look at the competition. He's not going up against the size players he'll see in the SEC. That might be why he's "underrated."

He looks very raw in that video, he already has the size but I'd give him a couple years.

Looks more like a NT than a LT I think. After a couple of of years in the SC program should be strong enough to soak up a couple of blockers and jam the middle pretty well I'd think.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with everyone. This guy is very athletic, has good balance, good lateral movement, very quick feet and is aggressive. His technique isn't too bad for a HS player either. He is a minimum 4 star.

Remember, this is highlights from one game.

he's too tall to play the nose. his future is on the offensive line at tackle. his video doesnt look bad at all. you dont always drive players 5 yards downfield. some plays arent designed for that. either way, i'm sure once our staff gets a hold of him he will do fine

A year of S&C and minus 30 pounds will make a huge difference. Should be perfect size for a tackle.

Kid has what you can't teach, size. Looks like a guy worthy of a scholarship to me. Two or three years down the road let's see what the coaches can do with him. His technique doesn't look bad. Lots of conditioning mixed with some mean attitude and all he'll need is who you want me to move on this play coach.

To have the best O'line you need guys that can mature and learn the position. The best scenario is to have a seasoned, experienced man-beast ready to fill a position opened by graduation/NFL. Looks like that's what we're trying to do on the O'line with recruiting.

ps. You don't have to look far to see what happens when you lose 4 experienced starters and try to recruit replacements after they're gone. No matter how many stars they have they can't step in and compete against SEC D'lineman. It's just not fair to the kid. (or the QB)

Oh, one more thing. The fact this guy was off the radar for most of us just shows the evaluation process Coach Saban does is why he's the best.

He moves well for his size...Period! Most HS OL are raw.....Technique is coachable...size is not!

Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

Bone reporting he visited Ole Miss this weekend with his mother., I know academics seem to be a concern, but my guess also would mean the staff is really wanting Taylor on the OL and are trying to make room. Which would mean we would probably still take McCullers as a DT. Plus with the new SEC rule I doubt UA signs any player that may not qualify.

Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

Fluker earned his 5 stars as a NT before switching to OT and never had any grade issues, grade problems can play heavy into an evaluation.
It often does , but it is used even more often as simply an excuse to deflect a "miss" . Afterall , evaluations are supposed to be based on talent , readiness and potential .

Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

This development makes me really think we are going to take Taylor's commitment.
And it make me wonder more and more about the talk of a group of players at the AL/MS game getting together and deciding they want to play football at Alabama (at least 1/3 of the way there).

Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

A 'Bama commitment taking a look at Ole Miss is about like a guy who lives in a swank Monaco penthouse checking out Kosovo studio apartments.

This one just has smoke coming from everywhere. Hard to look at this and not think that Hill is on the outside looking in and actively searching for a new school.

Re: *** OT Brandon Hill Commits to BAMA ***

The one new caveat with the SEC 25 rule that is a huge change from the past, is if a school signs a player that does not qualify that player will still count against the incoming 25. In the past we could sign over and these players would be sign a place and not affect the incoming 25 max set by the NCAA. We sign someone like Hill or Gladney and neither qualify they take up two spots of players that will qualify that we could use. Not saying either will not but the days of signing these players is long gone.
