Poll: Will we continue to play two QB's next week.

Will we still have open competition at QB next week or a bonafide CNS starter?

The only thing that seperated Sims and AJ was that it seemed AJ was quicker to pull the trigger than Sims. Dont think I have ever said this about a new QB but Sims was just not playing fast, Usually a Freshamn Qb will be throwing to soon and over the head of a WR. Sims seemd like he didn't want to make a mistake which lead to him hold the ball a sec to long.

Another question I have is Why does everyone assume Sims transfers at the end of the year? I see the point that he might start somewhere else but If he can't beat AJ out right this year it doesnt mean he will not next year.

This might be true, but it assumes that Phillip sees things the same way. A lofty assumption, IMO.

Don't know if anyone else saw it; Just saw on ESPN interview with Nick Saban (don't know which show) but it was between 5pm-5:30pm central (sorry I was cooking:)); Said McCarron will get the start at PSU...I've looked for the interview but can't find a link it yet...

Edit: I think it was Sports Center

When the second quarter began:

1st series Vlachos get abused by #5 (Nix) on a play action and gets Sims killed (as soon as he fakes the hand off and turns he gets pummelled)
2nd series Fluker gets beat by a slow white guy, never really touches and the kid hurries Sims and forces a fumble.
3rd and 4th series O Line doesnt recognize any stunts and Sims is getting killed as soons as he throws

So to answer, for a freshman quarterback, playing in his first game having to worry whether a 3 year starter (Vlachos) or a 2 year starter (Fluker) can handle their players (from Kent State) one on one is flat out sad. And to watch our film of several years of being unable to recognize a stunt and as a first time QB seeing your own unit do the same I would be rattled too. I think after the coaches watch the film Sims won't grade so badly. Did make a bad throw or two but his offensive line played a lot worse than he did. Instead of bickering who should be starting qb or who should be how many series, I think the better question is when will they decide on an offensive line and teach them how to block the man in front of them and maybe later in the year see if we can begin to teach them how to recognize and possible pick up a blitz.

actually these are valid points. I think Sims still has a chance to make some things happen for us but he just needed to get out there under the lights when it counts. Sims has to realize that when the oline is breaking down he has to dump it off below the the defense. The 1 thing i like about Sims is his ability to read a defense. he can see most of the field unlike most of our past and present QB's. but he's gotta get the ball out quicker when pressured. as the season goes he will get a lot better. Many are crowning AJ our lone QB. As of right now we still are going to use 2 QB's

If AJ continues to develop at this rate he'll be a great one. I'm not at all giving up on Phillip, quite the contrary. This may be best for both our guys and the team. If AJ has two good seasons he could be headed for the NFL. That leaves Sims with a couple of years to lead the team. I'd love to see both in the league someday. I know it's still early and a lot can happen but a guy can dream can't he? Drinkin' the cool aid in Cullman tonight! RTR

AJ should be the starter for the next three years barring injury. I doubt he will leave early, but he has good size and strength. He could be the next Tom Brady, who knows.

It is so obvious that AJ is the starter that we really shouldn't have to sugar coat it much longer. It's a sensative issue, but we have been watching AJ since he was a junior in HS or before and have always assumed that he would lead the team and he earned it on his own. He looks seasoned, and that;s what we need. We can't afford to have a QB that is self conscious about small fundamentals.

AJ has learned to get rid of the ball, instead of doing something dumb, trying to be a hero. I say the job is his, but not my decision.
Greg was more intellectual than than athletic and made good decisions but AJ may be more decisive than Greg. He doesn't hold the ball and seems to check down when needed. The conservative game plan helped.

I expect AJ will start this coming Sat., but P. Sims needs some game experience also, since he is one play away from the top job...however, since I have yet to receive a check for my coaching insight, I expect CNS will do what HE thinks is best, and I'm pretty much ok with that, I guess...
