Poll: Will we continue to play two QB's next week.

Will we still have open competition at QB next week or a bonafide CNS starter?

This is not meant to be a discussion on today's play as we have another thread on that, just the QB's and next week, will we see both or not. I believe Coach Saban is a one QB coach and a starter will play without interruption and the season will truly start next week in Happy Valley.

Your thoughts?

This does not include Wildcat play.

I think we'll see much more running and swing/screen passes to our RBs next week from whoever's in the game. I don't think it will be as wide open as it was this week. In other words, we'll lean on our horses (particularly Trent) a ton next week. The story next week will be more about Trent's legs than about anyone else's arm

Based on the performance of each qb during the game, I think AJ has clearly won the starting spot. Barring injury, he'll continue to start for the remainder of the season. IMO Sims still hasn't brought his 'game' up to collegiate speed. This is not high school, and you can't sit back in the pocket and wait for receivers to get open. If he waited so long to release the ball that Kent State was able to get to him, SEC defenders will have him eating dirt all day long.
Frankly, at this point in the season, I'm surprised we're even having this discussion.

I could see that based on Saturday's performance that Saban will tell both quarterbacks they will play next week, but not have a preset rotation as he did today. I could see AJ starting and continuing to remain in unless he begins to make mistakes or looks uncomfortable. He can bring Sims in for a change of pace or if the offense is struggling or if we get a good lead. I like Sims and his potential, but in both the spring game and especially yesterday's game he is waiting until he sees the receiver open before he releases the ball and not anticipating the receiver to be open based on coverage and route running. He clearly is struggling with the speed of the college game.

I believe we'll have a "starter" who will get the majority of the playing time, and I believe that's most likely to be AJ. Despite that, however, I think we'll have "packages" where Sims will be used in every game. I wouldn't be surprised to see an 80/20 split.

Good post. If the play of both were changed, AJ would be on the bench next week. Phillip is, and I am glad for future QB recruits, being given every opportunity to take the job from a highly touted Parade All-America upperclassman who was 30/43 with two TD's and wore the headset the entire season last year. This is not an easy task, and I thought PS would have to be more that equal to get the job. We all saw the game and can draw out own conclusions.

If Simms is given another shot, I would have to say that is is borderline unfair to AJ. But only borderline. He has earned the job, he did not inherit anything.
