Post Iron Bowl Workplace Smack Talk

One of my preachers is an Auburn grad. We rationally talked about the game. My SEC football coworker is an A&M grad. We rationally talked about both the Alabama/Auburn game and the A&M/Mizzou game. I'm very glad today that I live in the Texas Panhandle and I'm not surrounded by idiots.

I work with one Barner & she admitted to not watching one single game prior to the Iron Bowl (I'd bet my next paycheck she couldn't name one member of their team). She came strutting in with her Auburn shirt on & announced that her lucky (Barner) hubby had scored two Mizzou tickets @100 ea. to the game Saturday. She then turned to me & said she wouldn't be able to make the trip with him, as her 13 year old daughter had a prior social engagement.

Never heard another word from her all day. :biggrin2:

I got friendly fire email from LSU fans I know. Return fire was devastating however. My one Aubie at work was classy and reserved. I rolled over and he remarked about it being a good game - I said almost a good game - he laughed. We're good.

Most of my co-workers know I am a huge Bama fan, so the smart Barners knew not to bring it up. At least first thing in the morning.
With that being said I did get "Got a second?" before I got in the building today. I made him think that I thought he needed to talk to me about something and I said sure. He said it again and I said Yes what do you need? He said nevermind and walked away. I could see the disappointment in his eyes as he walked away. He really thought he was going to get me.
Then, this morning in one of our meetings, I was told "We still have room on the Gus bus." I replied " I will walk." After that I got nothing else, but a couple of Roll Tides.

I have to say that some of the best fans that I have ever talked football with went to aTm.

I do the same thing. In the past four years, I haven't bragged or rubbed anyone's nose as we brought home three crystal footballs. None of the four Barners I work with said anything today. They knew what it would make them look like if they did. Only a delivery guy came in wanting to talk smack. I avoided him - not about to take it off someone like him.

The only Barner to say anything took the high road and just said it was a classic game. I don't think anyone has the guts to start talking trash to me. I don't talk trash to other teams fans, I just prefer to talk the strength and weakness of each team and let the chips fall where they may. You start it and I'm knowledgeable enough to do a couple of precision strikes that usually will send them on their way.

My boss is an Ole Miss alum and when I walked in today, he asked me if I would have rather lost to Miss St. (referring to the egg bowl). I said yes.

I wish I had taken advantage of the 42-14 and 49-0 the last 2 years. The clowns I work with here in the office are typical: You did not hear a word from them the last 2 years. As a matter of fact, you would not have known if the barn had a team because they never mentioned it. Of course they are out in force today which reminds me of why I hate auburn.

I know. We win our games regularly, but do not rub it in over and over to the opposing fans. The same can not be said for their win and not just this year, but any year they beat us it seems. If it is not the AU fans you know, it is the national media showing it over and over and calling it the best ending of all time. It is hard to tune it out. I have been changing the t.v. channels and radio stations repeatedly for the past two days. I just want to remain in a Bama bubble and not listen to "clutter", outside of those who are true Alabama fans.

My boss (Tennessee fan) came in the office and asked if I was crying first thing this morning. A few coworkers (all of them are Tennessee fans except one Miami fan) did their best to give me a hard time...one pretended to be crying and gave me a sign that said Roll Tide #4, others said Roll Tears Roll...a Florida fan said Roll Tears Roll as well. Some of my students and their parents gave me a hard time as expected (Tennessee fans and one OSU fan). I smiled and said Roll Tide! to all of them and then asked all but the OSU fan which bowl game they are going to this year. AU fans did not give me too much grief since I congratulated them on the win and was nice to them.

Auburn fans everywhere, I heard a War E**** for the first time in 2 years. Guy talking about "We basically the greatest team ever" man sometimes I can't stand living in Montgomery.

Rarely post here, but thought this was worth it. Yesterday afternoon, our Deputy Director (we're in a government office) came to see me. We had been in grad school together at the University, both big Bama fans, and had already talked about Saturday's game. Seems one of the Division Chiefs - a huge Barner - had just come to his office to show him one of those "got a second" pictures. He (the Deputy Director) wasn't amused, but didn't blow up at this guy's feeble attempt to rub it in. I asked "Did he realize you're his boss and you write his civilian appraisal?" He smiled and replied "I don't get mad. I get even."

I was going to ask for help in the proper response to the next idiot that asks me "hey, got a sec, wanna run something by you."

How about, yeah, but you're going to have to wait about 41 years for it to ever happen again???

My barner buddy was telling me he wasn't at the game, but his whole family immediately went there to celebrate. I think that night or the next morning. He said there was more toilet paper around than he had ever seen before. He was in awe of how much toilet paper they used, and how glorious it looked. A real beautiful sight, and the odd thing was he was being sincere.

I took all I could, then opened my eyes wide and all innocent like, and asked him "Is it true y'all roll the paper back up after the party so you can reuse it?"

At first, he thought I was serious, and answered no, they wash it away with a power sprayer. Then, it finally dawned on him I was mocking their toilet tradition. I never said a word after asking my question, I just let him figure it out.

Win or lose I do not like to talk smack before or after a game. It is not fun to rub a loss in other fan's faces so I do not see how they enjoy rubbing it in my face. Most of my *U fans were cordial enough but there are always a few who like to take it too far.

I don't talk with the guy I report to about much of anything other than work. I've never brought up sports with him. He has mentioned Bama football to me twice over the past 4 or 5 years; once after a loss to LSU and then yesterday. It's not smack talk but I don't know why he brings it up then. Really, he can't think of any better times to mention Alabama football?

I've never been a big smack talker at work, but if I'm asked about Bama's chances on any particular game, I give my honest opinion...which usually contains a huge amount of confidence. So when one certain AU fan tried to approach me with the "Got a second" comment today, I simply said, "Yes, and a third and a fourth and a fifth...and a fifteenth!...do you!! Shutty!
