Post season thread...

Yes, as long as Grant is the coach.

He's our Mark Richt, a coach who falls short every year but, the PTB will keep him around because he's a "good guy". Shula was a good guy but, I don't think anyone would say he should still be our coach. If you are satisfied with mediocrity (like the folks in charge seem to be) then by all means keep Grant forever. NIT is not and never will be good enough for me. I'll support the team but, I have no more support for Grant.

Looks like you got your wish

Let's be clear everybody.....let's stop throwing the phrase "rock bottom" unless u know the true definition.....18-14 and a NIT appearance is NOT rock bottom.....multiple losing seasons with losing conference records with no post season play is rock bottom.....we are not there yet.....auburn under barbee was rock bottom....grants tenure does not resemble that AT ALL

And let me say this, in no way am I saying I don't want a coaching change, I'm just as disappointed with grant as everybody on this board is....I'm just tired of seeing "rock bottom" thrown around when it doesn't resemble where the program is

Agree 100%

While this season and CAG's tenure has been a disappointment, we are far from "rock bottom"...it can get a lot worse.

When we are NOT one of the top 68 teams in the nation, it is rock bottom. We have no reason why we shouldn't be making the tournament every year. Going to the NIT is garbage to me because it means nothing. All that is, is getting a few more practices in.

It's like expecting us to be happy in football for making the Birmingham Bowl.

Using the NCAA tournament as a measuring stick for a basketball team and coach is like judging the success of a football team on them going to a bowl game. While we didn't make the "dance", we are one of the top 68 teams in the country (though that's not saying much). The NCAA tourney has 32 "automatic" bids, the "committee" only selects 36. UAB is a "tournament" team even though they were 19-15, finished #5 in conference USA and had an rpi 40 places behind us. Using a football analogy
making the NCAA = going to any bowl game
the "sweet 16"= the Capital One bowl
the "elite 8" = the Sugar Bowl
and the Final 4 is what we did last season.
I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be satisfied going to the "weedwhacker" bowl and occasionally the Capital One, but that seems to be all a lot of folks strive for. :conf2:

Alabama is 6 seed in NIT and will play Illinois Tuesday

Really could've done w/out the butt hurt former Providence coach calling BAMA classless for firing Grant today. I think the kids will come out and play with an "Us VS. the world" attitude and beat Illinois Wednesday night! I hope our fans and students show up and support the team! (I know it is spring break...)

I hope Witherspoon is the 'interim' coach and we see the offense we saw the first few games of the season with all the cutting and motion. With how Taylor has improved the last 10 games we could see a different team out there....

Welsh, even at a basketball-only school in the then-meaningful Big East, was more mediocre than Grant - but must feel like every coach deserves the 10 years he got from Providence to prove their mediocrity. As an analyst he's got nothing, either.

I had never heard of Tim Welsh before so I looked him up on Wikipedia. He was fired at Hofstra before ever coaching a game when he was found passed out drunk in his car at a red light.

Isn't it always Bama's fault?

I guess Minton doesn't know how to pick up a phone. Maybe he didn't have cell service. Don't you have to accept a bid? To me you need to contact the AD and make an offer into the tournament. Haven't teams turned down NIT bids before?
