Pure speculation, but seeing that his dad is a HS football coach and Jalen has been a "coach's kid" his entire life. He will get some pretty sound and objective advice, minus all the emotion. Many times having a dad who is a coach the immediate answer isn't always "transfer".
 
He could play a slot receiver on offense, he can run once in the open field. Safety may work, he is not afraid to make contact. Return punts and kicks. Or maybe he just sits and sees if Tua struggles or gets hurt. Maybe this kind of thinking makes him work harder to hold on to his job now.

Tua came to Bama to play qb and, money aside, that's something BIG. If he chooses to transfer, it's about PT now.

Well he did not have a lot of playing time before his auburn stint. If Tua started next yr he would be sophmore, OH and Jalen as true freshman made it all the way to Title game, so still he could have one great year and it be enough. I have no clue if pro is in his mind, if he is good enough I bet it is. You do not play at this level unless you have made a huge commitment, when was last time a NFL ready player did not at least try football in NFL? I do not everremeber hearing any NFL caliber QB went into a regular job before testing NFL.

I would hope/think they see "NFL QB" is not an option. So, position change or be ok with being the backup and having that as a resume builder for being a future coach himself.

??? He won a Jr. College National Championship at Blinn.

According to SI: He threw for 2,833 yards, rushed for 655, and accounted for 39 total touchdowns. The Buccaneers went 11-1, and won the NJCAA national championship

Some players get it - most don't. Braxton Miller was drafted in the 3rd round as an athlete and WR. Had he insisted that he stay at QB he never would have sniffed an NFL career.

Terrelle Pryor is another example. If he hadn't switched positions he wouldn't even be in the NFL anymore. Meanwhile, Tebow insisted on being a QB and is now playing baseball...

I don't think Hurts has the lateral quickness to play slot or safety

Since he's from my neck of the woods, I can't help but think of a kid like Justin Thomas. He desperately wanted to play QB in college, so he goes to Georgia Tech instead of coming to Alabama to move to CB. The few NFL tryouts he got were for WR and DB.

My bad, did not know that but then I never really heard of him until he came to SEC and his trouble at UF and Miss team.
