Do you think he would come here with the possibility of not seeing playing time until
at least year 2? It seems like a lot of these top quarterbacks want to go where they can
play day 1. Thoughts?
The overwhelming odds are that Kiel and his parents can take their choice....Go to a program where, depending on whether he enrolls in time for spring practice, he can realistically expect to be the best QB option 120 or 240 days out of high school. Or go to a program where he has a chance to win a championship when he becomes the best QB on the team.
Any big-time program in a major conference who is starting on a true freshman is going to have equally big-time problems. They're just not ready, no matter what their HS pedigree. True, there are about enough exceptions to keep talk-show callers braying, "Well, what about......" They can have their true freshmen. Give me the talented third year sophomore, and even though he may have only mop-up experience, we'll whip the 18 year old true freshman's tail 95%+ of the time.
If Keil wants to be the best pro prospect possible, he'll go to a big-time program that is stable enough to let him mature for 12 - 24 months before throwing him to the tender mercies of a major-conference defense. Hopefully, that stable big time program will be Alabama. If not, best wishes.
