Heard today on the radio that he past away tragically. Does anyone know what happened. I remember him when Wimp was there. 3 point specialist with defensive issues as I remember. He drove Wimp crazy.

Just curious.

I did not hear about but this is sad if true. I remember Alvin Lee although I don't recall exactly which years he played for Bama. I think it was in the early 90's maybe?

Alvin Lee passed away due to a traffic accident in Virginia in 1999. I don't rememebr any details other than it was a traffic accident in the home state.

Just a few notes on Mr. Lee. He was a JUCO transfer, and played at Bama for the 87-88 and 88-89 seasons. He was a dead-eye three point shooter, and even though he was considered a defensive liability early in his Bama career, the lightbulb really went on for him sometime during his senior season. The combination of Lee from the outside, Ansley on the inside, and Waites running the point made us formadible during his senior season, especially at home where we were practically unbeatable. We won the SEC tournament, and went into the NCAA tournament with a ton of momentum. We played South Alabama in the first round, and took a 19-point lead into the locker room at halftime, and then something really bizarre happened. Those of you complaining about the officiating at the Ole Miss game, I kid you not, what happened in the second half of that South Alabama game was in another league. To this day, that is the only game that I've even seen where I truly believe that the "fix" was in. But I digress. USA took a lead with under a minute left, but Alvin Lee, on the last shot of his Bama career, stroked a three-pointer to give us a one-point lead. I will always remember that shot, because it should have propelled us to the win and Lee into Bama lore forever, but we gave up a three-pointer on the other end and lost.

Alvin Lee is my all-time favorite Bama b-ball player, and I know I'm partial, but I think he's easily the best three-point shooter we've ever had.

I apologize if some of my details are wrong. I feel like I remember all of that like it was yesterday, but you know how memories can be.

Alvin had this unusual shooting motion, turning slightly to his left and releasing at an angle....different but brutally effective. Played a few pick-up games with him at the REC Center back in the day.

R.I.P.

Alvin was my older cousin. I really don't have many articles or photos of his playing days, but it feels good to read this. He was always a good 3 point shooter, and led the nation in scoring in JUCO in 87. He was also nearly automatic from the free throw line. Was the runner up for Virginia player of the year to J.R. Reid. RIP Alvin.

Thank you for sharing. Alvin gave us Bama fans good memories. I'm sad his life ended far too soon.

Robert Horry was also on that team, and I got in trouble for punching a hole in a closet door after that one. I was absolutely shocked...and angry, needless to say.

I've always said the same thing. Also I am convinced that we were on such a roll at that point of the season that we would have beaten Michigan in the 2nd round. That was a very good team that hit their stride late in the season. It could have been the team that finally broke through the sweet 16 ceiling had the refs not robbed us.
