Questions about Milroe.

Let’s just put this perspective:

1. You have a OL that is capable of giving you time. We saw that at times against a Tennessee defense that statically is good, thus many WR/TE were completely wide open, and JM himself could have tucked the ball and ran for a 1st down easily.

2. You have JH and JM at the RB position who have been robbed of opportunities simply because defenses do not respect Alabama up front because they know the QB can’t read defenses well. So it’s easy to stack the box on early downs and dare JM to throw.

3. I kept saying all game, “I know someobdy other than Williams is open!” And while that may be true, most of the time he was open but if one receiver is getting 20+ targets, either all of the other WR/TEs are just okay to below average or RW is such a good player that he can mask the real issues going on with the QB play

4. The defense (and I’ll keep saying this) DID NOT LOSE THIS GAME! Sure, they could have stepped up and made a stop here and there but the losses in that secondary were very significant and you’re asking Freshman to do things they have not had time to be developed to do. If I get you 3 turnovers as a defense in one half of football, you would think my offense could manufacture points 2/3 times at least.

This game could have easily been 28-0 at half and at the worst, you get a 2nd half Georgia situation where they cut the lead to 28-24. We scored another TD which pushes it to 35-24 and we hold on to win. This defense is not 2015, 2016, 2009, etc., they will have games where they will struggle. But if the offense can’t take advantage of opportunites….what do you expect?

If you want to have a shot at sniffing the playoffs, what else do you have to lose by not putting Ty in?
100% agree with #4 and I’ve been arguing this point with friends. I honestly believe the D isn’t great but they are better than what they are being given credit for. They have played good enough to win. If the offense could produce, it would look a whole lot different for the D. They have been on the field a lot.

we were in route to establishing some dominance against South Carolina. Right be fore the half, we gave up 5 points that were directly attributable to Milroe’s interception and giving up a safety.

The same reason that prevented him from starting last year: team politics.
IF this is the real reason behind the Milroe-Simpson drama then DeBoer should just go ahead and throw caution to the wind and make the change sooner than later, even if it destroys the locker room and ruins the season.

Better to do this now than let it linger any longer.

Milroe just doesn't seem to be the answer at QB.

And IF DeBoer were to do this, he should also make a public announcement that he's the head coach, he's making the decisions, and anyone on the team or staff who disagrees is free to seek a roster spot or staff position elsewhere.

Set the tone now.

It’s 2023 all over again. Saban benched Milroe, and the OL had a mutiny.

If Milroe is benched it will be interesting to see if he embraces it and supports Simpson or does he rally his inner circle and sabotage the choice like rumoured vs USF. It will be a true test of character.

The next game I coach will be my first, but I'd like it if Simpson got significant reps in practice, and would actually get put into games when Milroe struggles. NIL politics cannot be allowed to drive personnel decisions. If the team can't get behind one of their own, then expectations need a hard reset.

Based on some of the posts on social media (particularly Caleb Odom) this team will need to come together this week or it will fracture completely. This locker room seems to be heading for problems, if they weren’t already bubbling under the surface.

And for Pete’s sake Coach DeBoer, stop this ridiculously childish end zone celebrations ( spinning the ball and acting like it is a campfire, jump shots by wide receivers, etc) and spoiled brat stuff.
What has Odom and others said? I worry about players getting frustrated and leaving (which I know will happen anyway in the portal era).

I'm not a phycologist and I can't put my finger on it but I'd bet money you'll get a bad reaction.

Someone on Twitter/X questioned Milroe's decisionmaking with the ill-advised throw to Williams in the end zone that resulted in an INT, suggesting Caleb Odom would have been a better choice and he retweeted it. It's since been removed, but it provided a glimpse into some understandable frustration.

The receivers would be happy if it meant them getting the ball more. I could tell RW was frustrated out there Saturday.
If the WRs would be happy because TS might spread the ball around more, and if the RBs would be happy because they might get more touches without so many called QB runs, would there be a mutiny this year if TS is given a game to show what he can do?

Milroe is a 4th year senior. He can not redshirt. Salivate all they want but he is locked in to dressing in Crimson this year whether he stands on the sideline or is leading the offense onto the field.
He’s a Jr.

IF he’s the better option. . We could be bad/under developed at the position for a multiplicity of reasons. We think we have it figured out on some message board. When we actually have no clue what‘s going on on a day to day basis in the program.
This actually poses a good question and I don't know if it's been addressed previously. From BoB to now, over the last 2-3 years, just how much coaching have the other qb's gotten. If just one guy is deemed the starter and gets all the reps and all the attention while the others just go thru mindless routines, have they been developed into actual replacements? Given my faith in this staff's ability to make adjustments, I am beginning to wonder.

I like Milroe, as I think we all do, and want to see him be successful. But the performance Saturday was atrocious, for whatever reason. His accuracy has never been great, but receivers have often bailed him out to make his numbers appear better. He's not a QB that needs to be throwing it 45 times a game. He does not fit this system. I understand CKD giving him the opportunity as the returning starter, but it should be obvious by now. Tommy Rees adjusted the playcalling to suit Jalen's skillset, but Sheridan and CKD don't seem to be willing to do it. Square peg, round hole. It's time to insert a QB more suited for this system. Williams is a great player, but doesn't need to be seeing 20 targets in a game, especially with other receivers running wide open. I understand their frustration.

I think the fear is that the OL doesn't play as well for the QB they don't want, not that the skill players will loaf.

It all depends on if the OL gives him a chance. None of this matters anyway. Ty is not going to start. He won't get the chance unless Nilroe has a season-ending injury.
