100% agree with #4 and I’ve been arguing this point with friends. I honestly believe the D isn’t great but they are better than what they are being given credit for. They have played good enough to win. If the offense could produce, it would look a whole lot different for the D. They have been on the field a lot.Let’s just put this perspective:
1. You have a OL that is capable of giving you time. We saw that at times against a Tennessee defense that statically is good, thus many WR/TE were completely wide open, and JM himself could have tucked the ball and ran for a 1st down easily.
2. You have JH and JM at the RB position who have been robbed of opportunities simply because defenses do not respect Alabama up front because they know the QB can’t read defenses well. So it’s easy to stack the box on early downs and dare JM to throw.
3. I kept saying all game, “I know someobdy other than Williams is open!” And while that may be true, most of the time he was open but if one receiver is getting 20+ targets, either all of the other WR/TEs are just okay to below average or RW is such a good player that he can mask the real issues going on with the QB play
4. The defense (and I’ll keep saying this) DID NOT LOSE THIS GAME! Sure, they could have stepped up and made a stop here and there but the losses in that secondary were very significant and you’re asking Freshman to do things they have not had time to be developed to do. If I get you 3 turnovers as a defense in one half of football, you would think my offense could manufacture points 2/3 times at least.
This game could have easily been 28-0 at half and at the worst, you get a 2nd half Georgia situation where they cut the lead to 28-24. We scored another TD which pushes it to 35-24 and we hold on to win. This defense is not 2015, 2016, 2009, etc., they will have games where they will struggle. But if the offense can’t take advantage of opportunites….what do you expect?
If you want to have a shot at sniffing the playoffs, what else do you have to lose by not putting Ty in?
we were in route to establishing some dominance against South Carolina. Right be fore the half, we gave up 5 points that were directly attributable to Milroe’s interception and giving up a safety.
