Questions about Milroe.

I know this is specifically the Milroe thread. I'm not directing this post to only him by any means, but it seems some of the players may need to listen closely again to the speech from Sylvester Croom a couple weeks ago to the team. If you aren't all in for Bama and don't understand the honor and privilege it is to put on that crimson or white jersey, don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. This NIL mess is doing nothing but fueling the Primadonna mentality some of these so called top 4- and 5-star recruits have, and they can go be a cancer somewhere else if that is all they care about! DeBoer almost won a title last year with many recruits with far less stars...time to invest and bring in the right folks who want to win and play Alabama Football! If that means benching some of the cancers, so be it...put the folks out there on the field that want to grow, learn, and do their dang best to try and succeed.

I still think Milroe is maybe hurt. He had been playing really well vs Wisconsin, UGA and Vandy. Completion % of 71, 82, & 75 in those 3 games while throwing for 300 yards in 2 of those games to go along with 6 passing TD and only 2 ints (one of which was quite fluky)

Then suddenly vs South Carolina and Tennessee he is under 70% in both games 4 total INTs and just outright looked bad. Some of that can be attributed to the defenses rushing the passer well but some of it cannot.

Idk. Maybe he just fell apart but his shoulder was clearly bothering him early in the South Carolina game after one of the hits he took.
or we can look at it and see that wisky doesn't have a great track record. The only other decent team they have played put over 300 yards on them in the air, and we didn't cross the 200 mark, so maybe that is not a good barometer at all.

UGA we had two weeks to script things out and that worked for the first 3-4 drives, then stalled out once UGA diagnosed it. Vandy doesn't have a single secondary player that could start for us, USCe or TN and they still forced a lot of confusion in the backfield. That 'fluky' INT against them was a sign of things to come because that throw was late and not where it needed to be and that's what we have continued to see.

It’s 2023 all over again. Saban benched Milroe, and the OL had a mutiny.
We've been round and round about whether the mutiny in Tampa actually happened, but that's basically irrelevant now, whether it happened or not.

New head coach, new staff, new system.

Make the change and tell everyone else to get on board or get out...including anyone with NIL influence who may be pushing buttons behind the scene.

Simpson will either thrive and shut everyone up, or we'll be mired in mediocrity if he doesn't.

Either way, it's time to make a change and see what becomes of it.

If JM returns, I expect TS and DL to both hit the portal...and I wouldn't blame them.
and others - Jam, Justice, Odom, Law, Prentice, Henderson, or any other skill player hoping that next year is the year they get decent film and stats to impress the NFL.

Why would they stay?

I think the fear is that the OL doesn't play as well for the QB they don't want, not that the skill players will loaf.
Deal with that now rather than later.

If things are this out of control, then DeBoer needs to lay down the hammer in the locker room and with the fanbase.

He's getting paid millions of dollars a year to lead the team, not take marching orders from 20 year olds and bagmen.

I agree in principle. But remember, not even Nick Saban could do anything to stop this nonsense. He retired because of it.

Gutsy call. But I don't think CKD is that kind of sheriff.

Saban was near the end of the road anyways, so I didn't expect him to change the way he handled things.

DeBoer is not even 50 years old yet, if he doesn't have the stones to do what needs to be done in this new era, then he needs to find another line of work.

We can't have a head coach who is afraid of players and people who write the players checks.

We have got to let Holstein go. What he is doing at Pitt wouldn't cut it here. He was horrible vs Cal for example. I think he'll grow into a good player but he wasn't ready to be the starting QB at Alabama.
That's some cherry picking off his 1st truly bad game.

Holstein First 6 Games:

127 for 200 (63.5%) for 1,700 Yards and 15 TD's and 5 INT's and 266 Yards Rushing and 3 TD's

He threw for 3TD's 5 straight times before the Cal game and threw for over 300 Yards 4 times.

Jalen's First 6 games of 2023:

85 for 132 (64.4%) for 1,397 Yards and 11 TD's and 4 INT's and 139 Yards Rushing and 5 TD's

He threw for 3 TD's Twice and 300 Yards Once and had Two games with NEGATIVE rushing from sacks.

That's a pretty fair one to one comparison of their 1st real 6 games as a starting QB.

I've watched every Pitt game this year and that Kid is running a FULL Offense and has put the whole team on his back several times and carried them to wins in tight games.

He had a Bad game vs Cal....

Guess what.... Jalen had a bad 6th start vs Ark in 2023 and completed 47% of his passes It happens.

I think Holstein has proven he can play.... why he had to go to Pitt to do it... I don't know.

I guess if Ty transfers from not getting a chance we'll be wondering why he's flourishing elsewhere too.

Then maybe he ain't man enough to be sheriff of T-Town.
This response is totally hypothetical because it will never happen but...

What if CKD came out and said, "this is the situation and this is what I'm doing to fix it." Then he cleaned house and we went 3-9 the following year. Would the fans support him or call for his head?

No one is saying Milroe is Tom Brady and I have said it may be time to make a change. But he WAS playing well this year. And sure you can discount every good play he's ever made if you want but he still had to make those plays.

Milroe has always had a weird effect on this fanbase where every positive he has is discounted and every negative is overexamined. It's really exhausting.

Short: Milroe isn’t a great quarterback for KD’s offense or any offense that requires quarterbacks reading pre and post snaps.

Guys we’ve beat this horse to death two seasons in a row now. The simple truth is Jalen Milroe is a great athlete and a below average quarterback. He has flashes of brilliance but the truth is he isn’t good enough to consistently play the position. I like the kid, tons of heart, still doesn’t make him a good quarterback.

I think some of our opinions of his play have been muddied up by other excuses like poor offensive line play at times, questionable offensive play calling, three different coordinators, and a new coach and entirely new system. All that does create problems. But, similar to the muddied opinions we had early on with Pete Golding due to injuries and linebacker recruiting, at the end of the day Golding was not a good coordinator and Milroe is not a good quarterback.

I think our team is in a dangerous position that could affect the current / future roster and recruiting.

Absolutely they would call for his head! Some fans are crazy.
