Realistic Replacement list

Corn, you are correct that the very best teams will be those who do both offense and defense very will, no question. However, if you are going ot pick one, as CMG apparently has, it is foolish to choose offense over defense. Offense relies too much on timing and matchups to be counted on to bail you out every time; sometimes the shots just don't fall. You can bring hard defense every night.

Go back and look at how many times CMG says (after a loss) something like "They shot the ball really well" or "They made their shots tonight". Is it purely coincidental that we have had so many career shooting nights, both individually and team numbers, against us? North Carolina, to use your example, doesn't seem to have that problem. They also have the added advantage of being able to score well, which we can't do either, at least consistently.

Evidently, if they are players from Indiana, he recruited them. I am unaware of any thug factor. I do know for a fact that he is a classy guy. We could do a lot worse. So he MAY be the answer. It seems like he coached a team into the finals.

Please explain how Mike Davis is recruiting "very well." His best players at UAB either followed him from Indiana or were provided a 10th chance at playing Div 1 basketball. Those guys are not examples of good recruiting. In fact, a few of the guys are examples of Mike Davis embracing thugs in order to win a few basketball games. He is NOT the answer.

I think the reference is not AS much referring to previous recruits as much as future ones, even though Mike Davis did recruit a number of good players already to UAB (several 4-star recruits, a JUCO All-American, etc).

But really, the future is what people are looking to. The following 5-star players in the 2009 class are listing interest in UAB:

- Renardo Sidney (some interest)
- Demarcus Cousins (close to committing to UAB)
- Ari Stewart (high on UAB)
- Lorenzo Brown (high on UAB)
- Karron Johnson (some interest)

Other 4-star recruits in 2009 that are strongly considering UAB include: Christian Watford, Shaunessy Smith, etc. Also, in the 2010 class, another 5-star recruit (Ralston Turner) is considering UAB. I know many of you are not that familiar with UAB basketball, but I think most of you would certainly recognize that so many 5-star and 4-star prospects considering UAB is not a yearly kind of occurance. However, it remains to be seen how many of these guys Davis can close the deal on.

I don't expect that CMD would be high on the list of candidates for any replacement of CMG. Frankly, I don't see Alabama taking any action for another year or so. Fortunately for CMG, he can recruit fairly well and that will probably save his job for at least a year or two more.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but this thread is four pages long and the names being proposed seem to be roughly about five names. Guys like Mike Anderson and Tubby Smith seem to dominate the posts. This thread seems to support the statement "Why get rid of CMG, who would you get that is better." I was really hoping to read this thread and see a bunch of names and go wow that guy would be awesome. So far I haven't really seen a proposal that does that. I would like to get someone like Kennedy at OM or Pearl at UT but I'm afraid we would end up with someone like Lebo at AU.

The fact that these two schools were able to hire quality coaches such as Kennedy and Pearl goes to show that we could get a quality basketball coach despite what some people think. The Ole Miss and Tennessee programs have not been close to the what the Alabama program has been over the years.

And while Lebo hasn't been great, he sure didn't have much trouble against Gottfried last year.

Bingo, that was my point.

Over on the football board we all laughed at Ole Miss for firing David Cutcliffe yet we want to do the exact same thing in basketball. Whether you think John Pelphrey is the answer or not at Arkansas, that coaching search was a circus and we act like our job is far superior.

I don't think our job is better than Arkansas-it's probably not as good, but our job is at least as good and probably better than the Ole Miss and Tennessee jobs and they both hired excellent coaches. Arkansas had a circus search because they wanted to hire a huge name and make a big splash. That isn't always necessary. There are plenty of guys out there like Pelphrey, Kennedy, and Pearl, you just have to find them. This whole idea that we couldn't hire a quality coach is ridiculous. Ole Miss and Tennessee did and so can we.
