Rules and Mods

My goal would be that all registered members posted every day. I would LOVE to have to spend a lot more money to handle the traffic load :D. That said, I appreciate those that lurk and those that post within the confines of our stated rules. As I posted a while back, those rules really haven’t changed much in the nearly 20years we have been here. I would hate to change the rules and thus become ESPNtide... a bunch of stupid people mouthing off loudly on things they’re clueless about 24/7/365. :D

I appreciate the usually thankless tasks that the moderators and admins have volunteered to do. Active members, lurkers, admins and mods ( and your humble Benevolent Dictator)... it takes us all!

Now go go buy some stuff from those that help pay the bills ;)
Just ordered a hoodie and cap for my grandson... :)

Bought a cap for my Dad and myself before the season started.

I love that we don't have dues for membership so I absolutely purchase from Fanatics through Tidefans and I encourage others to do the same. It goes really far towards keeping this site in tip top technical shape and keeps you looking dope in Bama gear. I'll likely grab some stuff when the season ends and it goes on sale again. ; )

My grandkids live in NOVA, but they spent their early years in Alabama and their mom, my daughter, has her law degree from Bama. They are thoroughly indoctrinated. The youngest, a 15-year old HS freshman, is a combo OL/LB. His ambition is to bulk up (he has good height and athletic ability) and try to play for Bama... :)

I'm sure you're proud of him either way but whoo-ee that would be something if he achieved THAT goal!

If this site was gone it would leave a big hole in my “Bama Life”. Everyone behind the scenes (admin/mods) try to give us a safe place to come and share our love of all things Bama. I’ve been part of this board 13 years and like most of you I’ve had to be corrected (thankfully only once or twice). TideFans is special. I am indeed grateful we are not ESPN-like. I see genuine care and concern when members go through a hard time and the other members rally around to give a kind word. In the end we all love the Alabama Crimson Tide and we get to come here and sit at the table and break bread together in the best way possible. Thanks to all of you! Roll Tide Roll!!!

You are allowed to say whatever you want here, so long as you say it in a mostly respectful manner with clean language. At least it seems that way to me. But if you try to state opinions really heavily, better have your facts straight. There are folks here who have forgotten more than most of us will ever know, and they will correct you.

I'll say this--When I look at the entire picture Tidefans is easily easily the best sports forum I've ever been a member of and it's not even close.
Any time you have a "team" this big there's going to be occasional issues and the coaches(Mods) have to right the ship.
It's a very difficult job I'm sure.
I enjoy my time here very much as evidenced by the however many thousands of hours I've spent here.
It's a great place to support Bama football. Roll Tide!

He's now 6' and about 175 as a freshman. Here is was seven years ago on a visit to him and family in Germany. It's astounding how fast they grow up!

My son is 6’2” and a sophomore playing b-ball. They grow up very very fast!

Eli is growing so fast, his weight is having a hard time catching up. I don't know how tall he will be...

Weight is another issue. He lost almost 10 pounds when b-ball started this year. We are having trouble keeping weight on him due to some dietary restrictions. Finally finding some high protein/calorie breakfast and lunch foods to help him.

I am proud that the mods take care of inappropriate content. I am occasional poster and a multiple times a day reader. I am going to get on my soapbox for just a second. This might get me suspended but I feel others will agree. I have the utmost respect for Earle. I love reading his post and think he does a great job monitoring the site. I noticed he shut down the Butch Jones thread and I have seen this before. It seems like if he don't like the topic he closes it. That thread is one I come and read the new posts everyday. I understand if threads are violating the rules or are not relevant closing them but the Butch Jones thread is still very relevant and follows the rules. I don't think it is fair for the mods to punish all of us regulars just because they don't like the topic. I hope this isn't my farewell post because I love this site. I am not trying to offend Earle or any other mods. I just feel if a thread follows the rules we should be able to discuss it:

This would be the type of topic that you would likely be better served to send Earle a private message (or the mod in question whoever it is that you're curious about the decision) and ask why it was closed and make the case for the thread staying open for the reasons you listed. That way you wouldn't have to worry about getting suspended for questioning a moderator's decision on the forum and they might take a second a look and discuss among themselves and re-open.

I disagreed with a thread closing once and sent the mod who closed it a pm. I knew he wasn’t going to re-open it, but just wanted to share my view.

I like that they have strict policies about profanity and personal attacks and that they are enforced. I am on other boards that have the same rules but let people break them. Then you get called a snowflake if you ask why they ignore rulebreaking. Don’t have rules you don’t enforce. It makes it confusing what is allowed and what isn’t.

Since this change is going to be very noticeable, I'll answer this, although normally matters like this should be covered in PMs. We're going to have fewer megathreads, going forward. It was a change we'd been discussing for a while, before the thread about it was started the other day. They become very unwieldy and they make us look more than a little obsessed. A lot of the time, where such a thread ends up doesn't even begin to resemble the original topic. Also, members start getting the feeling that any comment on UT, for example, must be placed in the Butch Jones thread. I'll shortly be closing the Ole Miss thread. Closing a megathread does not mean that the topic is closed. Another thread can be started any time new information turns up. Also, even if closed, a megathread won't roll completely off the board for some time and can always be referred back to for familiarization.

Some members have developed the feeling for example, that all comments after a game must be placed in the Postgame thread. This was never intended to be the case. The thread will be there for those who want to post in it, but any comment which doesn't quite fit in the current discussions in that thread is free to start another thread. It's a bit of a change but not that much...
