Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...
2. Going to Texas in no form or fashion "destroys" Bama. Do you really think we will be so powerless? Darn, bud, you're sounding like a Who.
It would without question cause destruction. Consider some implications of a Saban move to Texas.
A: Alabama would lose a significant portion of what could be the best recruiting class Saban or Alabama ever had.
B: It would have serious impact on Alabama's BCS bowl game.
C: It would cause an exodus as some players transferred and others left early.
D: It would radically alter not only the coaching staff, but the entire support staff.
E: It would have lasting impact on recruiting, including 2015 commits and beyond.
If, for instance Nick Saban left for the NFL, or retired, a lot of those things would be mitigated. Going to Texas though? Now, along with all of those things, he would be directly competing for the resources that he's stockpiled at Alabama. It would wreak havoc, and there's no way around that.
It really would be as simple as Nick Saban tearing up the his Lego structure he built at Alabama, and trying to cart off the pieces to build something else at Texas. If he doesn't take as many pieces as he can, his "rebuilding" at Texas (which by the way would also be in the form of doing away with some things the second best coach in Texas history, who was vying for a Big 12 title this year did) would be for naught. It's not like Saban can get Texas back soon, without getting some of the guys he's recruiting for Alabama, and without bringing over as much of the staff as he can salvage. All of that obviously would be destructive to Alabama.
So, there's simply no way around it. Saban can't just "rebuild" Texas, without as I said, taking a sledgehammer to what he did at Alabama. Also, as to the whole, we're Alabama, no coach is that important type of stuff. Bear Bryant wasn't easily replaced. Gene Stallings wasn't easily replaced. The logic is that yes, Alabama will have another great coach in the future, but it's a huge assumption that who ever replaced Nick would fit the bill, in fact it's likely they won't.
