Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Who or what is the source of the 30 million under the table from Texas? Or where has that been said from a credible person or entity? Not saying it isn't true, just seems very unlikely.
There could never be a credible source for that. Think about it.

2. Going to Texas in no form or fashion "destroys" Bama. Do you really think we will be so powerless? Darn, bud, you're sounding like a Who.
It would without question cause destruction. Consider some implications of a Saban move to Texas.

A: Alabama would lose a significant portion of what could be the best recruiting class Saban or Alabama ever had.
B: It would have serious impact on Alabama's BCS bowl game.
C: It would cause an exodus as some players transferred and others left early.
D: It would radically alter not only the coaching staff, but the entire support staff.
E: It would have lasting impact on recruiting, including 2015 commits and beyond.

If, for instance Nick Saban left for the NFL, or retired, a lot of those things would be mitigated. Going to Texas though? Now, along with all of those things, he would be directly competing for the resources that he's stockpiled at Alabama. It would wreak havoc, and there's no way around that.

It really would be as simple as Nick Saban tearing up the his Lego structure he built at Alabama, and trying to cart off the pieces to build something else at Texas. If he doesn't take as many pieces as he can, his "rebuilding" at Texas (which by the way would also be in the form of doing away with some things the second best coach in Texas history, who was vying for a Big 12 title this year did) would be for naught. It's not like Saban can get Texas back soon, without getting some of the guys he's recruiting for Alabama, and without bringing over as much of the staff as he can salvage. All of that obviously would be destructive to Alabama.

So, there's simply no way around it. Saban can't just "rebuild" Texas, without as I said, taking a sledgehammer to what he did at Alabama. Also, as to the whole, we're Alabama, no coach is that important type of stuff. Bear Bryant wasn't easily replaced. Gene Stallings wasn't easily replaced. The logic is that yes, Alabama will have another great coach in the future, but it's a huge assumption that who ever replaced Nick would fit the bill, in fact it's likely they won't.

i thought the bad investment was that gaudy house on lake burton. i hadn't heard about houston. is it an uglier house? ;)
And don't forget, Terry Saban just closed on buying Matthew McConaughey's big ol' honkin' house earlier this week, according to some Houston radio station. That had to be a chunk of change too.

It's the mantra of the times: we'll have to agree to disagree. Those are some mighty large assumptions at the top of your list. Things would certainly change. They would not implode.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Such insecurity from Crimson Tide fans and supporters is often rather baffling . Alabama is the most accomplished D1 program in NCAA history . Why would anyone actually believe CNS would just hop up and walk away from Alabama for ANY other college job ?

apartment complex in Houston...the "under the table" stuff is, well, under the table. The Texas billionaire's that have the most "pull" in this program would blow your mind...look at the power struggle right now with the UT board of regents and the UT President/Mack Browns relationship. It would not surprise at all if legal action comes about from the UT President/Mack Brown relationship...money paid to Brown and approved by UT President. I believe it could get ugly post Mack Brown/Bill Powers (UT President), who subsequently will be fired on Thursday

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Just read a Chris Low article on ESPN talking about the fact that Alabama has not actually offered a CONTRACT, but an "offer of commitment" to make him the highest paid college football coach. So he hasn't had a contract to sign.

Here is the last line of the article:

"Sources told Low that while Saban has been recruiting he is not presently involved in the process of a contract extension -- and added that Saban is not worried about the deal."

Interesting...

Here's the linkage:

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Earle you are correct...Bama boosters will "bailout CNS" on the losses he incurred on the bad investment in Houston...utw had a package in place (30 mil "under the table" signing bonus from boosters) to "eliminate his losses"...
You were semi-interesting until this.
