CNS has been visiting many recruits, their families and their coaches in the last few days. Now when they ask him if he is staying at Alabama and he is saying yes, do you people that think he may be leaving, believe he is lying? I don't. He has to much integrity to be trapsing all over the country lying to recruits and their famlies and coaches.

He is just too good of a man to be doing such a thing.

I agree. I'll admit I was a bit concerned until I started hearing the feedback from the recruits and their families, as well as AJ's comments the last couple of days. I think he stays.

Well this rapidly turned into a bash the state of Texas and city of Austin thread. It's okay, I will still happily buy any of you a beer if you're ever in Austin!

I've been to Alabama a few times and it was very nice. The only thing that was absolutely terrible was the design of I-10 through Mobile. Seriously, who did that? Four lanes down to two with an interchange in the middle of a very tight turn right before a tunnel and a bridge? Who thought that was good idea? That traffic was a billion times worse than I35 in Austin and I35 traffic is atrocious.

Back on topic, Texas' football banquet is tonight. Mack supposedly steps down over the weekend or Monday.

There are going to be a lot of very angry fans. Four years of mediocre to bad football at $5+ million/year? Is that worth it to you? The reason they aren't pulling the USC fire-him-in-the-parking-lot deal is because of the great things he's done for the program. They really want him to go out with a parade and not in a pine box. Mack has been stubborn about trying to fix it the past couple years.

I think he sees the writing on the wall finally and that he will retire. Don't know who will replace him.

Just keep the context in mind. A lot of people are saying how much better Austin is, and that's a subjective thing.

Furthermore, in the broader context, Alabama has Alabama football, and I guess we'd grudgingly admit Auburn football. Texas has the Cowboys, the Rockets, the Rangers, The Colt 45s (most awesome name ever, too bad they changed it to some other nonsense), the Mavericks, the Spurs, etc... So, part of the resentment is the notion that Texas just has to have absolutely everything.

Austin is a beautiful city. Terrible traffic, but that comes with the territory. That said, I much prefer Columbus to Austin. That is home for me.

I have not had a chance to see Tuscaloosa. Some day my wife and I will make it down for a game.

I agree on I-10. I don't think we're bashing the state of Texas so much as we're just saying "y'all ain't all THAT like you think you are". All things are relative, and the northeast laughs at y'all just like they laugh at us, so get over yourselves...thinking you're considered some cultural mecca. All things being relative, yes you are in some circles. But in the big pond in general (the U.S. as a whole) you're a footnote to true cultural elitists.

Yes, Austin is nice. Yes, it's a nicer town than Tuscaloosa if you're an average person looking for somewhere to live with things going on, etc., or if you're a tourist. There is NO comparison there. We get that. I don't dislike Texas or Austin. I have a nephew who lives in Houston, my sister lived in Dallas for many years. I like visiting there. But people keep bringing that up like Austin is the "happening" place and that should sway Nick Saban. There are few more culturally diverse and "happening" places than Miami, and they weren't happy there. The surroundings didn't make up for what they were disliking about what was going on at the Miami Dolphins.

We're talking about football culture, because that's the main thing in this decision. Texas is great, but it doesn't have the tradition of Alabama. Period. They have tons of money to throw around - more than Alabama. We get that. We also know it's not everything, and while Saban wants to be well compensated for his efforts, he also wants a place where he has the ultimate say, the ultimate control, a passionate fan base, tradition enough that he can make his mark on history. Now, Texas has a passionate fan base, plenty of money, and a pretty good tradition. But they can't give him the first 2 - ultimate say and control. Without that, he can't accomplish his goals.

Those things trump the groovy atmosphere in Austin - to the Sabans.

Oh I'm not worried about. We bring a lot of it on ourselves as we do have that Texas arrogance and attitude. But when it comes down to it, most of us are pretty nice people with a few exceptions. We love our Texas football as much as you guys love your Tide.

Forget Auburn, even Texans know that western Alabama is far better than eastern Alabama. Thanks for reminding of my misery in being an Astros fan.

Obviously, people are being a little facetious. Austin is a great town, and Texas is a great state. But it's ridiculous for these so-called "reporters" to act as if the fact you can get Mad Dog margaritas at the Chili Parlor will somehow swing Coach Saban to Texas.

I think the advent of social media has driven "reporters" to just start flinging junk out there and hoping it sticks to try and enhance their credibility. I can totally see them saying the exact same thing about Saban not caring about the culture when he stays where he is.

I generally ignore all the noise and try to find real news. Unfortunately that is very difficult to these days for any type of news, not just when it comes to this story.

By the way, good job mods for keeping this board stable and clean. It's refreshing to be able have some discussion without a mess of a board and one of the reasons I've kept posting the past few days.

I just may take you up on that beer when I'm in Austin. I live near Houston. I could throw a rock and it would possibly land in the city of Houston. I got tired of the concrete jungle there and moved out of Houston. I do have a brother-in-law who's a lawyer in Austin and a graduate of UT.

I do think that the University of Alabama has a beautiful campus. I can't say the same for UT. It's like a downtown university, almost like the University of Houston, maybe a little better and a much more prestigious institution of learning.

If/When Coach Brown is FIRED/RETIRES, will another BIG school hire him? He does have a comparable record to Coach Saban in wins/losses, maybe even a little better, except BCSNC's.

I have given some thought to Texas seceding and annexing Alabama and other SEC schools, but I've changed my mind. I now think Alabama should secede and annex Texas and other SEC states!

I checked out Shaggy Bevo for a few days leading up to the Bama-UT BCS game. That place was a mess. Profanitly and personal attacks around every corner.
