Les Miles is now the longest tenured coach in the SEC West followed by Saban. I believe Mark Richt is now the longest tenured coach in all of the SEC and he's only been there since 2001. That is insane. I think the days of a coach staying with a team for a long period of time are officially behind us. Outside of Paterno and Bowden I can't think of one current head coach who has been with a BCS school more than 10 years.

Mike Belotti has been at Oregon for 13 years, but after that... you're right...

Mack Brown took over Texas in 1998 so he's right at 10 years.
Kirk Ferentz just finished his 9th season at Iowa as did Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.

Good point, but there are probably a few out there...

Now in his tenth year as head coach of the Sooners, Stoops has a combined record of 106–23–0

Bobby Johnson, Vanderbilt - 2001
Rich Brooks, Kentucky - 2003

Other Conferences:

Pete Carroll, USC - 2001
Mike Belotti, Oregon - 1995
Mack Brown, Texas - 1998
Bob Stoops, Oklahoma - 1999
Gary Pinkel, Missouri - 2001
Jim Tressel, Ohio State - 2001
Jim Grobe, Wake Forrest - 2002
Frank Beamer, Va. Tech - 1986?
Pat Hill, Fresno State - ?

Of course there's Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno, but after that I can't think of anyone who's been employed longer than Mike Belotti, Frank Beamer, or Mack Brown.

The days of long-tenured coaches may be over, I fear, especially in the SEC where it is no longer possible for one team to dominate. Blame it on the coaching salaries. You have to sell out a big stadium every single game to pay those coaches and nobody can afford to ride out more than two down seasons anymore if attendance drops.

Coaches with impressive winning records, like Tuberville, get dropped after 10 years for one losing season. That's what a $3 million salary gets you--no wiggle room. At least they can put some serious money in the bank in just a few years, because a 10-year stay is going to be very rare in the future. I wonder who Auburn can attract if Tubervilles record gets you fired. Not a better coach, I'm guessing.
