“On occasion” alone answered this.

Bryce was a great escape artist. More Kyler Murray than anything, except he wouldnt run. And many of those occasions he was running for life and struggling to see downfield.

Bryce was good. But still behind Tua and Mack as a passer. But he is light years ahead of Milroe.

Milroe may be the best athlete on the team but that does not automatically translate to being the best player on the team. I hope that by late in fall camp, this coaching staff can mold him into that player. If not, then they will have to throw out part of the playbook and coach to his strengths.

That last part worked pretty well last year, until we faced teams with good defenses. A couple of guys rushing him and he backs up till he's tackled. I hope DeBoer at least gets that problem solved.

I think CTR got a massively bad rap because the QB didn't do and couldn't do the things CTR installed into the offense. It's been shown on video countless times CTR built in routes to help JM but more times than not weren't utilized.

You do understand that, “what CTR came up with” is what Milroe could run effectively, right? You do get that, right? If you’re going to throw shots at least throw them at the right people.

Yes, I fully understand the situation. But I've also heard CKD referred to as "an offensive genius." I didn't intend my remark to be a dig on CTR so much as a compliment to CKD.

What CTR "came up with" was what Milroe could actually do. There were so many things Milroe just couldn't do last year that CTR had to scale back the offense. Even then, Milroe still was boom or bust. He was bad on the read options, so it wasn't a big part of offense. Once CTR figured this out, he did his best to streamline the offense for Milroe.

I can imagine being a big WR recruit, getting lots of playing time, running the prescribed routes and being open more times than not.....only to seldomly get the ball because the QB can't see me.

Milroe doesn't see a lot of open receivers including outlet running backs. Or at least he doesn't see them and identify them as possibilities quickly enough. Yeah but he's probably the best running QB we've ever had.

MIlroe played behind a porous OL which led to tons of sacks. Yeah, but due to #2 above he often held the ball too long. So a lot of those sacks weren't the OL's fault.

Yeah, but the OL wasn't that great at run blocking. We got stuffed at the LOS a lot. Yeah but the opposing defenses weren't too worried about Milroe's passing, so they stacked the line....it's hard for anybody to run against 7 in the box plus safeties cheating up in run support.

Milroe has the backing of the team. He's a leader. Yeah, maybe. The team does seem to like him, but he showed his hindquarters after the barn game.

Milroe clearly has some weaknesses. We need to give somebody else a real chance. Yeah but we made the CFP with him at QB, and led the eventual national champion until their last drive of regulation. How bad can he be?

Yeah but we were there in spite of his play rather than because of it.

Yeah but the coaches clearly thought he was the best option. What else would you suggest Saban and Rees have done?

If you start someone other than Milroe you'll lose the locker room. Yeah, but are we now allowing players to choose who starts?

Yeah but if you start Milroe, you'll have mass exodus from the other QBs. And Milroe's playing style exposes him to injury. What happens if we have no depth and he gets hurt?

Milroe has been in the program three years and hasn't improved all that much. Yeah, but a lot of that time was under BOB and nobody improved much while he was here. DeBoer might be able to develop his weak areas.

Yeah, but he has only one off-season to do that. Are we better with somebody who doesn't have those weaknesses? Yeah, but all players have weaknesses. Are we waiting for the perfect player who needs no coaching? It'll be a long wait.

It goes on forever.

I'm glad the QBs are getting a fresh review from people who have no history with any of them. Whoever the QB ends up being, it'll be the one that a new staff feels will give us the best chance to win.

not only hard to recruit - it's hard to keep them. Bond explicitly said he was leaving to play with a passer who would get him the ball. Niblack didn't say that exactly, but given how many times he was WIDE open on schedule and didn't get the ball and how many times he slipped a block to beat the blitz and didn't get the ball, we kinda know what happened. Malik Benson - bailed. That's 3 of the top 5 returning receivers who left and it's not like they had other guys behind them threatening to take their reps.

Yep. Mix that sort of thing in with, what did CNS say? 70-80% asking for playing time assurances and questioning how much they`re going to be paid ? I`m surprised if you can keep 50% of the roster.

I wouldn`t at all be surprised if one of the responsibilities of the team`s General Manager is to keep up to date information on the going rates for high school prospects, by position and * rankings.
