Spring Practice Thread/News/Predictions

Yeah he probably has the slowest release or slowest time getting the ball out of any of the QB'a
It's not probably - it's certain. Time the throws during practice videos. Take everyone else's times, on average, then add at least 50% more and that's where JM will be.

It was occasional for Milroe as well. Most of his plays were positive. There weren't that many interceptions in 2023. He had a few where he had some indecision when to run. He had issues with a seemly clueless OL not offering protection. That was a worse problem than most realize. I did not like Wolford at all. At any rate, a lot of the 2023 issues should should be gone.

No, it was not occasional. It was a majority of plays; likely a large majority. Even many that eventually turned into positive plays were not executed as designed. On one of the scoring drives against UGA, Milroe went 4-4. Sounds great right? The problem is that NONE of those 4 were executed as designed, even though on ALL FOUR, the initial read was OPEN, and guess what, 2nd read was ALSO OPEN ON ALL FOUR. On 1-2 of them, the third read was OPEN. Milroe didn't make the right decisions and didn't throw to ANY of them, so then had to get all ad-hoc and improv and thank goodness Bond bailed JM out, a LOT.

The OL had some early challenges, perhaps, but with the QB is holding onto the ball forever and not hitting any of the early reads as designed, most of the sacks are not on them, they are on the QB. OL protections are designed with the route combo's in mind, so if the ball is supposed to be out in about 2.5-2.7 seconds, they set up in short drops to facilitate that. If the QB then holds the ball for 3.8 seconds, then that's on the QB.

Im going to be glued to practice reports this coming week to see if we get any news on the o line. Thats the thing that really worries me about the offense. I’d prefer if Milroe isn’t the qb but he appears to be the best we have so it is what it is. If we can get the o line to be at least competent I think we have a shot at the playoffs

Don't be so concerned about or Milroe. We will be fine.

It’s spring break at UA, so no practice this week.

I hope Milroe improves, but also think the other QB’s will be good too.

Hope everyone stays safe for spring break.

All quarterbacks make those kind of errors and mistakes. Bryce Young missed open receivers on occasion. It was brought up with photos showing it. But no one here gave him heck about it. But let Milroe do it, and it's Bad Milroe!

You can't seriously be comparing Milroe mistakes to Bryce mistakes. That's like comparing apples to cloud formations.

Bryce was and is a cerebral QB. He's looking for your weaknesses before the snap. He knows where to go more times than not when a blitz is coming.

Milroe....can't do any of that and if he does it's some miracle play.

I cannot understand some yalls opinions on milroe. He is the best qb on this team and possibly a top 10 pick next year if he continues to develop. Ty will push him and that'll be great for the team, but milroe is the qb on the roster and probably the best football player on the team.
Jalen is one of the good players, BUT... The Helmet throwing and hollering caused Coach Saban to look at him a little differently.
That was not a very classy move. I lost some respect for him when he showed no class. I had thought he was maybe a classy guy.

I don’t think you could be more wrong about this tbh

Just an unbelievably inaccurate take.

I don't think it's not inaccurate take. I think he's being realistic.

Milroe may be the best athlete on the team but that does not automatically translate to being the best player on the team. I hope that by late in fall camp, this coaching staff can mold him into that player. If not, then they will have to throw out part of the playbook and coach to his strengths.

“On occasion” alone answered this.

Bryce was a great escape artist. More Kyler Murray than anything, except he wouldnt run. And many of those occasions he was running for life and struggling to see downfield.

Bryce was good. But still behind Tua and Mack as a passer. But he is light years ahead of Milroe.
I'm not a Young fan, but he was light years ahead of Milroe on accuracy, touch, pocket presence, quick release reading the defense, processing through his reads, and elusivenes. Milroe would probably smoke him in the 40, but you don't need that to be an effective QB.

Nobody is worried about the occasional missed receiver. We’re worried about the constant poor decisions.
Constant? Really? This really gets blown way out of proportion. Something happens maybe two times, and it's then constant. I'm guessing you refer to when he hesitated on running a couple times. Did you know he only had 4 interceptions from Ole Miss through Michigan this past season? Yet some want to still include interceptions as one of his problems. I thought he did a really good job leading the team into the playoffs, with wins over the Barn and Georgia. His positives outweigh what negatives he has bigly. And he's still improving. The players and coaches like him. I don't see there's any problem. I will support whoever wins the starting job. It'll definitely take an elite quarterback to beat Milroe for the job.

IF that happens, I'll be tremendously disappointed in KDB and will completely change my opinion of him as a coach. If he can't mold Milroe into what he needs as a QB, there are plenty of options in the roster. Three immediately come to mind.
