Constant? Really? This really gets blown way out of proportion. Something happens maybe two times, and it's then constant. I'm guessing you refer to when he hesitated on running a couple times. Did you know he only had 4 interceptions from Ole Miss through Michigan this past season? Yet some want to still include interceptions as one of his problems. I thought he did a really good job leading the team into the playoffs, with wins over the Barn and Georgia. His positives outweigh what negatives he has bigly. And he's still improving. The players and coaches like him. I don't see there's any problem. I will support whoever wins the starting job. It'll definitely take an elite quarterback to beat Milroe for the job.
So we're going to say his lack of interceptions shows he's doing well? I'd say it shows he isn't throwing the ball away or hitting a hot route over a blitz....then most just blame the OL for allowing the sack.

He made poor decision after poor decision at Auburn. Throws over the line of scrimmage twice....for no reason other than his lack of awareness in the heat of the moment.

The Auburn win was a miracle, we should have never been in that situation. The Georgia win....was busted play after busted play for us because they had 2 spies and rarely blitzed.

If he improves with his decision making....great. Throws in practice with no pressure are throws in practice with no pressure. I'm more interested in how the QB's progress in scrimmages and the A-Day game....sure, they can't be touched, but they have to process what the defense is doing to be successful.

The players and coaches love Milroe, yes. He plays the leadership role and the politics well. This is where I'm nervous for 2024....if Milroe doesn't win the job, does DeBoer lose a portion of the team? Do we have a repeat of USF?

To me (can’t speak for anyone else) but it was constant. That doesn’t mean TOs but he hardly hit his wrs in the designed quicker routes. He almost never leads a wr and waits until they are wide open and waits until the team is in trouble to make tighter passes. I’m not sure there’s a Bama qb under Saban I would not take before him. It was a painful offense to watch because how bad the o line was and mix that with him you get the over reactions a lot on here have. Is he as bad as a lot make him, no of course not but let’s not say he was better than avg throwing. Can he make all the NFL throws yes, did he do it with any consistency not close. The reason the big plays like the end of barn had to happen is because the routine plays were not made on offense. Not all his fault obviously but he struggled with them. He had a ton of wide open guys whether it was wr, TE or rb for short routes and let’s not act like he was always on target for the deep throws his supposedly best throw. Guys had to adjust. His potential is great though and by all accounts and interviews seems like a fantastic kid that can grow.

With that said I do think he can improve and especially now having the best offensive group of coaches he has had. So personally I am wait and see until fall camp. But I also don’t want to watch the mental struggle I saw this past season nor the oline struggle.

Dude, YES constant. Go watch tape and there are wide open receivers all the time where Milroe does not throw it to them.

People need to put feelings aside and stop looking at Milroe the person and start looking at Milroe the QB. He’s not good enough.

Just curious what is with videos like these? Do these guys have any actual inside information or access? Haven’t watched any besides this but they seem like they have no more info or football IQ than normal fans and seem like Milroe fan boys. Not hating or meaning that against Milroe just actual unsure who they are.
Kyle Henderson’s channel has blown up recently due to Saban’s retirement, but also because Kyle is very relatable. He is good on the mic but is kind of a casual in the Xs and Os department. Coach Smook is also really good on the mic but they both think way too highly of Milroe. Kyle called Milroe “the best player in the playoffs” last year and it’s clear these guys simply don’t pay attention, but they’re not alone in that…

Im going to be glued to practice reports this coming week to see if we get any news on the o line. Thats the thing that really worries me about the offense. I’d prefer if Milroe isn’t the qb but he appears to be the best we have so it is what it is. If we can get the o line to be at least competent I think we have a shot at the playoffs
Seriously? Based on what?🤔

I think it's the coaches job to determine that...😉

Agreed on this. Nail in the coffin was during the video Smook got all excited about a JM throw like it was just amazing, when it really wasn't. It wasn't a bad throw, but it also wasn't great. It was a deeper throw and the WR had to slow down and wait for a count and even then it was kinda behind the WR. JM didn't lead him at all. Again, not awful or anything, but certainly not on the plus side of good, and the commentator went all crazy for it.

Also watch anytime JM is next to another QB throwing the same type of route - he's way slower at everything that goes into getting the ball away. Literally his entire process is slower; he doesn't get the ball into throwing position quickly, his footwork is slower, both on the drop and in getting pivoted toward the route, his feet don't get wide and set so of course this leads to the ball coming out way slower. Multiple reps in that video showed it, side by side, where the QBs touched the ball from the snap at the same time, but JM is still at the back of his wind up while the other QB (I think it was Simpson both times) has already released the ball and has finished his follow through...

Mack's mechanics are better than Milroe's as evidence in the below video.

This is a debate over what we want Milroe to be, what he can be versus what he is right now. In this day and age, we are repeatedly asked to deny what our eyes and ears are showing us for some other version of reality.

Milroe looks like a Greek god, has elite straight line speed, and can throw to any part of the field. He has all the physical traits of an elite QB.

But if you hem him up in the pocket and make him go through progressions his game falls apart.

Now, CKD can coach him on quick throws and he can confidently execute those throws then we have something.

But I don't think CKD is in a position to carry player at this position as he develops next year. Following a legend, transfer portal risk, and expanded competition in the SEC will require him to put the most capable QB on the field at the outset of the season.

He (to me) is the football version of JQ, in that he does amazing things, and is an “ooh” and “ah” guy. But then he suddenly throws an unexplainable pass, or fumbles, or misses the open receiver because he’s trying to make the rock star play.

his skill set isn’t necessary to win championships. And the ones he needs, I haven’t consistently seen yet.

And I think that the QB after him will crush it.

The last dual threat QB to win a championship was?
I mean obviously he needs to improve in some areas, intermediate passing game for instance, processing quicker. But there no reason he can't do that, and this offense should help him leap forward. Jalen is a special player, and I think he keeps the job and more over I think thats a good thing.

Can't say enough about how this staff should help our qbs improve this off-season.

Im high on Simpsons/Lonergan upside with this staff. (just need to see more of mack)

But Jalen can and I think will improve where we need him to.

I think we should take note that the center and QB aren't immediately put in drill lines in front of players who have been here.

I imagine it was a point of discussion and emphasis that it would not be "a good look" to stick Deboer's former players at Washington in front of guys who had previously been on the team.

Probably just a small detail but a sign that CKD is navigating the change with lots of forethought and maturity!
He is super savvy, especially about "relationship" matters. His attitudinal strategy seems to be to focus on a very, very serious "team" approach, along with building trust between players and coaches, such that it will be difficult for any player to whine or pout when things don't go their way.

IMO, that is the biggest challenge that DeBoer faces this year - what if Jalen Milroe is not the best option at QB? Can CKD handle it such that Jalen does not become a negative force? His natural approach gives him a leg up.

Being the number one QB at Alabama means everything to JM. Of course, DeBoer is aware of that and his influence on this team and really the entire program. It will be touchy. Conversely, does he have the courage to make what he knows is the right call if it is not Jalen?

If not handled with great discretion, either decision has the potential to be explosive.

This is all true. It's probably going to be his first really hard decision that might make or break the 24 season. I'm not into saying make or brake for career because he's going to get a few seasons to show us what he's got and I think he's got what it takes. With that being said it open the door to possibly rotating JM should the competition be close. When it's all on the field for everyone to see there won't be any second guessing after that. I of course hate that, but if we can't get separation in a no contact scrimmage that leaves only one choice. But as I have stated many times before my evaluation of QB never includes rush yards. Rush yards are a bonus to have in a game but from an evaluation standpoint it's useless because it will never be significant against the UGA's of the world.

All quarterbacks make those kind of errors and mistakes. Bryce Young missed open receivers on occasion. It was brought up with photos showing it. But no one here gave him heck about it. But let Milroe do it, and it's Bad Milroe!
Bryce had BOB calling plays and by most opinions here had no offensive line coach. Bryce essentially had to resort to sandlot football and did a great job with it and amazed people with his point guard ability to get the ball off late in the play. Good enough to win a Heisman Trophy. Milroe doesn't have any of that except has been blessed with more muscle.

And that's really the main question isn't it: Can JM improve and do everything (it's not just processing, it's literally everything) faster?

I'm not going to go so far as to say he can't, but the track record doesn't point to any real progress made in the areas that really need the most improvement. In every instance of him throwing we've seen this spring, he's still super slow and if he's not repping getting the ball away faster when he's working on his own or in the passing drills, it's going to be very, very hard for him to all of a sudden start getting the ball out faster in a live environment like a scrimmage or game.
