Watching UNC-Duke...Hubert Davis said that he had never heard of the musicians the players listened to before the games, etc. Made me feel better...I have heard of Drake, but only because he made the news as a sexual predator a few years ago.
I hope you’re right buddy. I don’t get down on JM too much, but I have begun to wonder if he can process pre/post-snap information well enough to continue improving. I don’t doubt that CKD will put him in great positions to succeed, and very likely utilize his legs more than last year.I cannot understand some yalls opinions on milroe. He is the best qb on this team and possibly a top 10 pick next year if he continues to develop. Ty will push him and that'll be great for the team, but milroe is the qb on the roster and probably the best football player on the team.
He (to me) is the football version of JQ, in that he does amazing things, and is an “ooh” and “ah” guy. But then he suddenly throws an unexplainable pass, or fumbles, or misses the open receiver because he’s trying to make the rock star play.I cannot understand some yalls opinions on milroe. I think you hit the crux of it, the "ooh and aaah" skill set is impressive to watch but isn't necessary to win titles. However, the boring and not so sexy skill set of processing information on time and making the right reads are, and that is something he has yet to display consistently. If he does, then we will have a great chance of winning g it all in CKD first season. He (to me) is the football version of JQ, in that he does amazing things, and is an “ooh” and “ah” guy. his skill set isn’t necessary to win championships. And the ones he needs, I haven’t consistently seen yet.
And I think that the QB after him will crush it.
The last dual threat QB to win a championship was?
You may end up being right. I'm curious to see the degree of development JM takes from last season to this season. I'm also just as curious to see what Ty Simpson comes in looking like as well.I just get the sneaking suspicion that Lonergan is going to be the solution.
Information processing on time, making right reads on the fly, etc., etc., ....these are the things that have plagued JM. I wish I knew enough about QB coaching to know how a staff goes about assessing and testing those skills to determine who does it best.I think you hit the crux of it, the "ooh and aaah" skill set is impressive to watch but isn't necessary to win titles. I was watching DL and Mack throwing side by side in one of the practice clips and both players got the snap if you will to throw a short pass and DL got the ball out to the WR a little faster. Quicker release. Thought it was interesting.I just get the sneaking suspicion that Lonergan is going to be the solution.
because according to PFF, he was LAST in FBS in time to get the ball away (clap to release). LAST. When running a timing based offense with short routes, that is a really, really, really bad thing.I cannot understand some yalls opinions on milroe. He is the best qb on this team and possibly a top 10 pick next year if he continues to develop. Ty will push him and that'll be great for the team, but milroe is the qb on the roster and probably the best football player on the team.
Yeah he probably has the slowest release or slowest time getting the ball out of any of the QB'abecause according to PFF, he was LAST in FBS in time to get the ball away (clap to release). LAST. When running a timing based offense with short routes, that is a really, really, really bad thing.
Also according to PFF, the was 6th from LAST in pressure to sack ratio.
so you have a QB who takes forever to get rid of the ball, even though MOST of the route options are designed to be open quickly, not getting the ball out, so the DL can get pressure, then when that happens, a QB who is 6th worst in the country at escaping pressure - leading to a lot of sacks and negative plays.
So what we had was an offense with the OL and skill players all recruited for and best suited to run a timing based offense which is what was installed and practiced over the course of many seasons for most of them, and then due to one players limitations, we couldn't run it as it should have been run.
Tell your OL they have to hold up for 3 seconds, well, that ends up being a sack because the ball takes too long to get out.
Tell your RBs to hold pass blocking or delay release for 2 seconds and be open in the flat, well that doesn't work and the ball never gets over there.
Run a TE across the middle to the open spot in the zones, ball won't be there on time and the TE runs into the coverage area.
Have the WRs run outs/drags/hitches, well the ball won't be there in time so the D closes the gap (or the ball just never gets thrown is what happened).
Last years offense was simply painful to watch; it really wasn't fun, and it was almost all due to the limitation of not getting the ball out when it was supposed to.
Now, can he fix it - maybe/possibly. If he does I will be thrilled for him, but he's had 3 years of college coaching to try to get that right and literally everyone around him gets the ball out faster, even guys still in their first year of college.
All quarterbacks make those kind of errors and mistakes. Bryce Young missed open receivers on occasion. It was brought up with photos showing it. But no one here gave him heck about it. But let Milroe do it, and it's Bad Milroe! He (to me) is the football version of JQ, in that he does amazing things, and is an “ooh” and “ah” guy. It was occasional for Milroe as well. Most of his plays were positive. There weren't that many interceptions in 2023. He had a few where he had some indecision when to run. He had issues with a seemly clueless OL not offering protection. That was a worse problem than most realize. I did not like Wolford at all. At any rate, a lot of the 2023 issues should should be gone.“On occasion” alone answered this.
Bryce was a great escape artist. More Kyler Murray than anything, except he wouldnt run. And many of those occasions he was running for life and struggling to see downfield.
Bryce was good. But still behind Tua and Mack as a passer. But he is light years ahead of Milroe.
Read the comments above about how his slow decision making put pressure on the OL. He made the OL look worse. It was occasional for Milroe as well. Most of his plays were positive. Nobody is worried about the occasional missed receiver. We’re worried about the constant poor decisions. All quarterbacks make those kind of errors and mistakes. Bryce Young missed open receivers on occasion. It was brought up with photos showing it. But no one here gave him heck about it. But let Milroe do it, and it's Bad Milroe!
