Stay Classy, Mack Brown: "It wouldn't even have been close"...

One other thing to consider here...Colt had two chances at scoring and couldn't deliver. That doesn't exactly scream to me that he would have been a difference maker. I don't want to cheapen the guy's ability to play, but our defense wasn't going to turn into a bunch of school girls just because a different QB was in the game. Our guys have given every offense out there fits and there's no reason to believe that Colt would have been a 16-point difference maker when you consider how well Gilbert DID play in the 3rd quarter.

Mack's statement is

- a slam on his new starting QB
- an admission of lack of preparation of McCoy's backup
- an admission that Texas was wholly dependent on one player, creating what engineers call a single point of FAILURE

Exactly. The excuses by Brown and the UT fans that are saying they'd have won with Colt, it cheapens the rest of your team and their effort which actually was pretty good.
The last time I checked McCoy doesn't play on defense or
call the plays. There are other things that contributed to the loss, for both teams (Alabama had their own issues- our qb was hurt, as was Ingram), but the main reason was, that Alabama was just better overall.

I would also point out on behalf of our Sooner brethern and Nebraska fans, that UT wouldn't have been in this game were it not for the refs putting an extra second on the board for UT to kick a fg in their conf champ. And they wouldn't have beat OK without Bradford going down in that game.
See how that works?

Using that logic, shouldn't both those UT wins have an asterisk by them?
Just sayin'.

Without commenting on "what if's", i keep reading about Saban "calling off the dogs" as if he was being merciful. He curled up and went into a shell on offense because he thought he could sit on an 18 point lead and didn't trust his offense to not turn the ball. It had pretty much been a comedy of errors to that point.

As to what would have happened, who knows? But rather than calling off the dogs it would be more accurate to say he curled up into the fetal position.

Fetal position would more accurately describe the position Colt McCoy will be for most of his NFL career, which will not be very long I might add. I've just got a feeling that the NFL doesn't need many more skinny "finesse" quarterbacks who can't take a hit. You don't realize it yet but Bama has administered a little thing I like to call the "Gino Torretta treatment." It will take about a half a year to see the treatment's full effects, about the time the rest of the world realizes he doesn't "have what it takes."

Wrong. He went conservative because we had a QB with cracked ribs who couldn't throw effectively...

This is as good a thread as any to post this.

I'm sure the Texas fans feel they probably would have won with McCoy in. If I were them, I'm sure I'd feel the same way. The way we were sputtering around out there at times, it's possible we could have lost with McCoy playing. It's also very possible we would have won.

But you can't ask, "What if McCoy had played" without also asking some other questions:

What if Dont'a Hightower had played? Dont'a would have been another McClain/Dareus caliber of athlete on the field ... and our best pass rusher.

What if Ro had been 100 per cent instead of still feeling the effects of the stomach virus? What if McElroy wasn't playing with cracked ribs? What if Marquis Johnson didn't have a bum thumb?

What if we hadn't lost Ingram to leg cramps for a key portion of the second half when Texas was making their comeback?

What if Damion Square had played? Another potential big play pass rusher.

What if Sam Bradford had not gone down in the UT/OU game ... would UT even have been there last night?

I'm just saying, when you start asking what ifs, you can't just pick and choose.

McCoy going out had a big impact on the game, no question. It's even possible it made a difference in the outcome ... no one knows. (Coach Brown's "It wouldn't even have been close" is laughable.)

As I say, if I were a UT fan I'm sure I'd feel my team lost because of an injury. But it's part of the game ... and it's not like Colt hurt himself on some freak practice injury. Bama knocked him out with physical football.

It is what it is.

Nice summary, thanks

Like many of you, I've read the various stories on websites that try to stamp an asterisk on this win. Some folks actually seeming angry that the Longhorn's somehow "got cheated". Probably the same guys were screaming that Texas was cheated last year. One bafoon on CFN actually stating that since Colt got injured, somehow UA should share the title with Boise State.

Like many of you, I've wanted to respond to the excuses and complaints and rationalizations by stating the obvious: Texas's single point of failure, lack of running game or qualified backup QB, our domination on the ground with MI and TR, our conservative play from late in the 2nd to mid 4th, all the other what-ifs and should-beens (Hightower, GMAC's ribs, Bradford's injury, etc).

In the end though, WHO CARES? We know what good football is: balance, beef, speed, defense, resilience, game management, clock management, taking risks when necessary, avoiding risks when not. We also know how many championships we have: 13 (not 8).

Let them whine. Let them asterisk. Let them rationalize. I really don't care.

ROLL TIDE!

Only the "irrelevants" whine...

Don't worry, this isn't unusual for Mack Brown and the "but..but, we're Texas" bunch. They will cry and whine about everything.

Fact is, If we had our QB Texas wouldn't have even been in the NC game. Injuries are a apart of the game. Deal with it UTerus.

2/2 for nine yards is "shredding"? Please.

I don't even need to read anything else in this thread. Both of these sum everything up perfectly. Gentlemen, you are wise.

I've reached zero tolerance for them on this site. Been pretty close to it for weeks. They are the worst bunch of rival fans we've had in years. And I'm sure one of them will run back to one of their sites and whine about my mistreatment of them. They think they should be able to come here and say whatever the hell they won't...

Anything with UT is not a good thing. Texas or Tennessee.:BigA:

Well, just look at the way they treat their own fans on their forums. Then they have the audacity to talk about a "lack of class" by Alabama fans. :rolleye2:

I think it's indicative of the state they live in. The whole everything is bigger in Texas. Well you know what we messed with texas and we won. They can kma if they don't like it. And I thought Barner fans were bad.
