Terry Grant Update

I believe he ran a 4.41 in the Hargrave combine!

I read on Rivals that Ford has run a 4.37 in the forty could that possibly be accurate? Also, I have heard that Grant is the fastest player from Mississippi this year. I hope we can put this speed to good use!
4.41 is not to shabby.....b/c R Hudson was 4.39 or so and he had plenty of speed!

yes, Ford ran a 4.41 recently and Grant ran a 4.29 at a camp at FSU earlier this summer.....probably not completely accurate, but he can scoot no doubt

Kick Returner?

Grant has the ability to be that all around type of player like Prothro. I'm uncertain on his hands, but the athleticism is there. I believe that we don't want our RBs or main WRs doing too much on special teams. We might see Stover, Coger, Arenas, and possibly Grant, if we get him, being considered for KO and P returns.

What is this garbage????????????

Today the sports editor in the Hattiesburg American published the following column:

Recruiting Violation??

I have sent an email to Mal Moore apprising him of this column. If Mr. Arnold is a Southern Miss graduate or booster, then I don't see how this cannot be an NCAA violation. If this column can be construed as an attempt to contact a recruit by a booster, then Southern Miss needs to pay for it.

Let Grant make up his mind on his own. I'm pretty sure Jeff Bower did a good sell job on Grant as did CMS. No high school kid needs this type of pressure from a so-called journalist.

I don't know if it is a violation but it is pretty sad journalism. If I were Grant, and for the record I am not, lol, that story would make me think Bama is the right place for me. The author is begging Grant to choose SM and in doing so he actually praises Alabama a great deal. That would seal the deal for me. I would go to Alabama to get the chance to compete for NCs every year as it says Alabama does in the article. Not to mention Tuscaloosa is pretty close to home so Mama and the family can see him play.

If anyone is so inclined I would suggest they send the e-mail to the Director of Football Operations or as he is known the Recruiting Coordinator Randy Ross or someone in the UA Compliance Office. I doubt Mal Moore would even have the time to read the e-mail.

I think Arnold realizes SM needs all the help they can get if they are going to get Grant to commit to SM over Bama. He is definitely doing an injustice to the young man. SM has nothing over Bama.

"Think about it, Terry. Consider all the historic implications. Only two numbers have been retired at Southern Miss - a quarterback (No. 4, Brett Favre) and kicker (No. 44, Ray Guy). What's missing is a legendary running back."

...and practically every other position on the football team.

You have to admit Favre and Guy are among the best to ever play their positions in the NFL. I will give them that. If I am Grant that is no reason to choose SM. ;)

A little over the top

The thing that gets me is that USM has been the most successful team in MS over the last 20 yrs. Because of that there isn't any reason for this desperation. Miss St and Ole Miss on the other hand have been dominated by their smaller neighbor to the north. Any way you want to look at it this article isn't as pathetic as EO's recruitment of post Katrina Tulane players.

North? Do you have any idea where Hattiesburg is? (Obviously Not)

I am from Mississippi and root for these teams accordingly

Alabama - 10
Ole Miss -1
Mississippi St. - 1
Southern Miss - 1
Everyone Else - 0

Since I'm from there I can't help but pull for them when they are playing teams not from Tuscaloosa. I do take a lot of pride in the fact that the best QB, WR, and RB in football history have all come from Mississippi. Oddly enough none of them played for MSU or Ole Miss. I do find plenty of humor in that!!

I respect your opinions but I would not say Favre and Rice are the best in history but they are up there near the top. Who is the RB? I am not trying to start an argument just wondering.

You wouldn't consider Jerry Rice the greatest receiver in history? Wow.
