The Decline of SCOTUS into a Partisan Political Body

The conservatives on the SC are just thumbing their noses at the public.

The liberals in the minority are under appreciated. Imagine having to sit with arrogant guys like Alito and Thomas and put up with them on a regular basis. When some of the anti Biden trolling gets a little thick on the board, I can take a break. The justices can’t get away or take a break from each other. The three liberals have my sympathy.

two sitting members of the supreme court were/are openly supporting an (totally not) insurrection (in addition to the bribes).

but it's uncivil to point this out because joe biden is old and we have the worst economy ever in the history of economies

I learn many things hanging out here - like that an insurrection has to go past midnight to be an insurrection and that those who see and accept reality and the ones who have an obvious mental illness as evidenced by their histrionics. But following and quoting conspiracy nuts is perfectly normal. A man who would pal around with a pedophile for 15 years and say openly that he knew the pedo liked them on the younger side and at the very least did nothing to stop it, is an adjudicated rapist, and openly said he could get away with it due to his status is A-OK. The man who openly says he wants to be a dictator and throw aside the constitution and who brought his followers to DC to "stop the steal" and pointed them toward the capitol to "fight like hell" and tried to throw aside the votes of millions is the protector of rights. And at least two justices are on his side and willing to make him king.

The problem isn’t just the two most obvious ones, it took more than two of them to delay Trump’s trials until after the election.

That did more damage than Alito’s very juvenile trolling with his wife’s upside down flag.

like we have known for a long, long time, iokiyar

I feel like we are in a slow motion race to see whether we can impose much needed SC reform before they completely destroy FDR’s legacy.

At the very least, Durbin should drag these guys to a hearing to explain a few things they’ve been getting away with.

I feel confident this fall’s elections will give the Supremes an accurate measure of how well their abortion meddling has gone over with the general public.

May I use this in its entirety in other venues to spread this truth?

Alito seems the type that if he keeps getting bad press over his behavior, to respond with even more extreme arguments and votes intended as payback.

It’s been rumored Alito wants to retire if Trump wins, I would guess if Biden wins Alito will not step down for at least four more years.

Alito is 74 so another Trump term would be a good time for him to step down if he wants to. But he’s not to the point he can’t hang on another four or eight years.

Thomas will be 76 next month. He is four years shy of being the longest serving justice in history. Would he step down under Trump II for political reasons or hang on just to set the record?

If you think it is ok for SC justices to declare Roe v Wade to be established case law, and then go about overturning it, then that says all i have to know about your opinions.

It just means that you believe that the ends always justify the means. Even if it means SC justices (who are supposed to be held to high standards) can just lie during confirmation hearings instead of going on record with their views on very important issues that were certain to come before the Court.

These are hacks, not John Marshalls.

It should have been easier for Ginsburg to retire because she knew Obama would replace her with a liberal.
it would be different for Alito during another Biden term because his seat would flip.

Both seem to me to be examples of why we need term limits. I’ve seen several suggestions for reform that make sense.
