Maybe, but we have no idea of possible backroom deals that might have accompanied this. Trump has shown that nothing he does or says can be trusted. Did his “speak loudly and carry a big stick” pronouncement work? Time will tell if this is all there is to it.

The notion that anyone would equate Acosta with Carlson is mind-boggling.

Edited to Add: Upon reflection, it seems reasonable that on political matters the typical Democrat is about as far from Carlson as the average Republican is from Acosta, so your point stands. Or, seen another way, Republicans are as close to Tucker as Democrats are to Jim. As a Democrat, I'm very comfortable with my position. I trust you are happy with yours as well.
