He's set himself into position where even if he did run, he wouldn't be able to win the primary. This is a common problem in both parties: if you're acceptable to the PARTY as they vote in primaries, you're often less than acceptable to the nation as a whole. This used to be a much bigger problem than it is now. But not all that long ago the PRIMARY produced extreme candidates that the activists imposed on the parties and....well, you'd better hope that the other party nominates someone more unacceptable than you do.
Also, we still maintain a certain aura about our President, even if the current one wears a dead raccoon on top of his head and looks like he was dipped in orange sherbert. Fetterman's refusal to even try to dress the part won't help, and the guy isn't exactly photogenic. Trump DOES still wear suits.
I also suspect they're going to primary him in 2028 - and I'm going to laugh out loud if they win up putting a Republican in his place. If the GYP was serious at the Senate level, Team Blue would be in serious trouble. Fortunately, nominees like Kari Lake, Roy Moore, Herschel Walker, and Dr. Oz (to go alongside Christine O'Donnell and Sharon Angle) have helped the Ds retain some seats over the years.
Well, you would think so, but who really knows?
One thing our tribal politics now entails is finding a creative way to blame someone in the other party for anything that's wrong now.
Measles outbreak? No, it's not the unvaccinated, it's those damn brown people bringing disease across our borders.
What's so funny about this is back in 2006, Rahm Emanuel at the time was the head of the Dem House campaign committee. Early in the year, a number of Republicans were already telling him the polling was showing a coming disaster for the Reps. And given the fact the Dems only needed to win 15 seats and folks were tired of Iraq, mad over Katrina, and the GOP had held the House for 12 years, odds were pretty good. But Emanuel, saying the terrain looked good in September, told one inquisitor, "Never underestimate our ability to blow it."
