I had always given him a pass for some reason. But he actually took a lot more away from Coach Saban that Kirby did.

I think it was in the special that espn special with him and Coach Bill Bellicheck a few years ago, when it came to coaches leaving for head coaching jobs he said something like "i am all for a coordinator leaving to build his own staff. But why do you want to tear down what i have built in order build your team?" It was then i realized that what happened when Sark left really bothered him. Everybody hated Alabama under Coach Saban. Right up to when they needed a coach.

I am nearing the point where, like the NFL i will be done with CFB. The portal is no more than free agency. The players are in control and can do whatever they want. I guess the pride that comes from wearing the crimson jersey is long gone with this bunch. Just mr 2cents.

Yes, I remember that well. Coach Saban is vastly under appreciated IMO by a lot of people who owe him a lot.

Well we were all concerned about Coach DeBoer’s ability to recruit. We all said his first job would be to re-recruit the team. Sad to say, but so far our very best players offensively and defensively are the ones hitting the portal, and rumored to be hitting the portal. It’s made worse that it’s mostly to Sark and Smart..

I agree, but he can only do so much to convince them to stay and see what the program will become with their help...............especially when you have rivals dissing you and waving cash in their faces. We need to start waving cash as well

Okay about other Bama forums. Have you not realized how lightly moderated they are? The only place I’ve seen anywhere close to Rodney saying what you are accusing him of is the Bama Rant board. Most Bama boards make their money off of the constant chaos of posters thus it takes an act of Satan to ever get you banned from them. So rumors are everlasting.

Rant works like this… if you want to throw credibility towards your name say

1) TI (Rodney) said it

2) Boz said it

or

3) my friend in the AD said it.

Those idiots will go with anything. You have to remember TI is a pay for site that looks like it is out of the 90’s. Most people don’t wanna pay for the few actual tea leaves Rodney gives out and have to deal with old codgers complaining about how bad the world is all the time. So it’s an easy out to suggest that TI is saying these things since he is right on 85-90% of his scoops, and never posts on Twitter these scoops.

Far as I can tell, since I am a member of TI just for offseason stuff, Rodney and Jess have more or less been quite on the coaching search and more preparing everyone for either Deboer or Norvell.

Rodney could have potentially said something about Lanning on some media but I’m sure it wouldn’t be as bold as saying “I guarantee Lanning will be the HC”. Rodney usually says something like “my sources think, or I’m hearing” he rarely makes a firm prediction unless there are far more credible names attached. Far as I know the “lanning in Tuscaloosa” stuff started with Tony T and bunch of Oregon news outlets. Me personally I never saw Rodney or Jess comment on it once. They could have but I have my doubts because of the multiple things I have addressed.

I would post screenshots what TI actually says but it’s against board rules so…

I’m assuming both. Apparently the lure of playing for Coach Saban came with making far less more in NIL as opposed to other teams

A commissioner of college football would have no power. It would only deprive Alabama of their most powerful supporter.

I think we are rapidly headed to power 5, or whatever you want to call it, having a model very similar to the NFL. Honestly, I think it's inevitable, and I can think of no other person than Saban who would be better for that position. I really don't care if it would take him completely away from the Alabama program, the game at large needs it and needs him in charge of it, and that's not being hyperbolic.

I think Byrne said A LOT when right off the bat of the search he made it a point to say "there will be a lot of rumors but unless it comes directly from me don't believe it ". I think the search was about as air tight as one could get it to the point that even those normally in the know, didn't have much of anything to go with.

I don't think it's really the Alabama fanbase's decision to be made. Regardless of whether Saban takes on a role like that, he could completely remove himself from the program over the course of the next few months. I just hope he is involved in college football in some way, because I think he's great for the sport.

This is precisely what Coach Saban was trying to say when he had his rant about Jimbo and A&M buying their class. It was an attempt to warn the boosters of Alabama that they’ve got to step up.

They’ve had nearly three years to do something.

I don’t usually listen to his show because it’s boring and usually a self promotion thing with very little to offer. So it’s possible that he could have said something, but I still have a hard time believing that he made a statement like “I guarantee Dan Lanning is the next coach”. He just never operates that way. Like I said there is always a door to get out of it like “my sources believe, or I’m hearing a lot about this” it’s never “this is going to happen” kinda statements.

I’m not trying to defend him because I still think he has a horribly ran site. But when we are hearing so much crap coming from a bunch of pop up news sources it’s probably best to trust the old farts who rarely jump at the first thing they hear.
