 22% of scholarship players have entered the portal. These kids are not making smart decisions.

Record number of NCAA hoops players enter transfer portal on first day | Sporting News
They retracted that story as it was 700 across men’s and women’s basketball. I believe the number was 296 in men’s basketball. That still not great but if they end up with about 800 that is about 2 a team which honestly if you a guy not playing or getting little minutes you should transfer imo. A lot of the times these teams build up guys about how the team will use them and how much time they will get and many get stuck on the back of bench. My buddy awhile back was a high school star that had fair share of teams after him promising him this and that . He was 6”10 and very good player ended up going to FSU. This was before AAU and where you traveled and knew how good you were. His freshman year he realized there was lots of players there better then him and even though coaches sold him in recruiting how he would get time and help team later they kept bringing in new guys that were better. After his sophomore year he realized it was time to move on to somewhere he could play. If you are at many of the bigger schools if you not getting time by sophomore year it probably time to move somewhere else as they keep bringing in new guys.

My gut says that Philon will return and so will Reid. Not sure exactly what Reid has shown this year that he would get a 1st or high second Rd grade. He had a 1st Rd grade before the season, but I think he could use another year, maybe two.
Updated NBA Draft board by the "experts" at ESPN says:
43. Philon
79. Nelson
95. Sears
97. Cliff

Philon has potential to be a top 10 pick next year if he continues to develop his all around game particularly from long range and gains some good weight. I expect we see him back in Crimson next year.

Where Reid and Sherrell rated at all?

I heard today that we may be at 15 scholarships next year.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. We haven't had 15 schollys since the '80s.

I gleaned that a school must opt in to the House settlement to be allowed to expand to 15 . I think this would benefit Alabama greatly because of the style and pace we play but I don't really know. Might benefit State schools to lower cost of attendance? Lots of skullduggery.

My feeling is that teams will use the 15 to maneuver the roster around to help with redshirting guys. You could have 10 scholarship guys on the roster and the other 5 could play there 8 games and redshirt 2-3 of them based on injuries. That would allow the freshman we have to get some experience next season but also redshirting them if they don’t play over 8 games.

In the old world of major college sports, that makes sense. In the world of "I don't know who I'm developing because I don't know who is coming back or what demands they will make or who has tampered with my players or maybe he doesn't like the new jerseys and thinks baby blue is cool" I'm not sure how teams will choose to construct their rosters.

Not in Top 100...
Not as surprising as you might think. Yes both were highly touted and have ceilings, but after watching all of college basketball this season and considering every international player, do you consider either of them a Top 100 player in the world? This isn't to knock either of them because they both have potential to be successful NBA guys.

If we can get to 15 scholarships, the ability to play matchup basketball is going to be amazing. You can get a guy like Chest, when you need a banger. Or you can get the lethal sharp shooter when teams are thin at the guard position. I think Nate would do a great job navigating that puzzle.
