I think you meant SUPER BOWEL. :D
I've spelled it 'superb owl' for years as a slight to the NFL for going after any business that uses their TM'd name for the game, even threatening lawsuits against mom-and-pop businesses for not paying a licensing fee to use the name to promote parties at their establishments.

I'm a huge supporter of IP, but the NFL has gone way overboard.

Denigrating a large swath of voters in this country - just because they vote differently than you - is one of the reasons he got elected. Please continue! :D
The Trump cult characterization doesn't refer to all of his voters, just the ones who think the guy can do no wrong and show unquestioned loyalty to him. You can often pick them out in real life by their attire, boats, flags, etc. and online by their refusal to accept any criticism of their dear leader.

Have to disagree. I don't know of a single person who sits down with his family at dinner and they discuss how much was spent for the POTUS to attend the Daytona 500....or Super Bowl....and why it was a bad idea. The money could have been used better.

Instead the conversation is likely..."This is what the leader of a country looks like!"

Refreshing! :)
You know one now, Bazza. It's beyond hypocritical for anyone to call for draconian and injudicious cost-cutting and then spend (or support the spending of) millions of dollars on an ego show. Conservatives have been critical of celebs like Streisand and others who display the "sacrifice for thee, but not for me" lifestyle. It's the same thing.

Of course not, but I guarantee there are people who no longer have jobs that are sitting at home thinking this.

Austerity hurts - always, but I believe it's necessary. That said, I've seen quite a few people asking the same question I did regarding the cost during this time of eliminating waste.

I don't have a problem with the President showing up at iconic events like the the SB and Daytona. It's a public relations thing with a little bit of patriotism baked in. A lot of people are just mad because the President didn't show up at Lilith Fair or SXSW.

And it's exactly this kind of thinking is why Trump won the election.

And are you seriously telling us.....the Huckleberry family had a discussion at the dinner table about Trump's attendance at the 500/SB being a negative for the country?

Trump comes from an entertainment background. And real estate development. Both require self-promotion to some degree. They involve sales management and marketing. I personally believe he over does it on the bragging stuff - but the rest of it is just who the man is.

Working the fry station at McDonald's......driving the garbage truck.......or attending world famous sporting events. This is something the world loves to see!

Are there those who are suffering right now and maybe not so inclined to be happy? Absolutely. But if you're going to do any finger pointing.....maybe that should be directed at the previous administration, for so many things they screwed up while in office.

It will take a while but we have a POTUS right now who is trying to get things done.

Nope. The Trumpers will vote for him regardless of what anyone says about them. Trump won the election because the inflation issue was attached to the Democrats.

We often discuss the day's events during dinner. Why is that hard to believe?

All the excuses in the world don't excuse his behavior. The "it's just who the man is" has been used to dismiss without responsibility or explanation a plethora of despicable things he's done.

Just because some people like to see Trump in action doesn't mean the world does. He's despised by 75,000,000 voting Americans and many millions more in Western nations. The only world that loves to see that stuff is populated by those who live in the World of Trump.

I can point plenty of fingers at prior administrations for stupid and wrongs things they've done, but as much as his loyalists might not like it, Trump is still responsible for his actions.

some of you have weird hills to die on. I am guessing these same folks that have a problem with Trump attending a major sporting event had no issue with Obama picking basketball tournament games live on espn? do you think that cost nothing? do you think he might have had better things he could have been doing?

Who's dying on a hill? I'm just saying that it appears hypocritical to be decrying wasteful spending on a such a massive scale that you're cutting thousands of jobs and humanitarian programs while at the same time spending millions to spend a few minutes at a sporting event.

Criticizing Trump is like kicking an ant hill.

Yes he's an entertainer, he's a clown.

The world doesn't love to see these things. Only those people in the cult.

The previous administration is GONE! In business that's known as a sunk cost and should be ignored going forward. Excusing his poor behavior because of a 'previous administrations', true or not, just doesn't cut it. Now is now.

Getting things done is good but he acts like a bull in a china shop.

He's like a child and treats AF1 like his toy just to have fun and stroke his ego.

All the excuses -snip-
Not an excuse.

An explanation why he likes to attend sporting events.

Unlike the previous president. Who did not attend sporting events.

Running someone down because they attend sporting events......and you throw around the phrase "An Attack on Democracy"?

LOL.....again...this is why you lost. Out of touch with Americans.......

Nothing unusual about that.

But we were discussing Trump attending the 500/SB. That's not "the day's events".

And in particular......you were disagreeing with his doing so....at the dinner table?

If so no biggie. But I bet not many else were or are discussing stuff like that.

I always wondered what it would be like to live in a dictatorship. I think I am beginning to see. That does not mean that he has not done some good things...but good Lord, he sure does confuse himself with a Caesar.
I've done it, in Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew. Difference was Lee actually loved his country and the diverse people in it. That said it was very oppressive in odd ways. I was there pre-internet so the news was heavily restricted, Lee famously hated the Wall Street Journal for instance allowing only a fixed number of copies in daily for business leaders and hotel guests. All Media was PG on sex hard R on violence (never understood that but I also don't understand our culture either) and very parochial and patriarchal. Best can be described by saying we got better info and more liberal media broadcast across the border from Muslim Malaysia which is also where we went to buy R Rated films.

Some stuff was great, if the State wanted a new train stop to be built onto a building they just did it, complaints be damned. Made for a very well functioning society in a lot of ways but also had a lot of negatives.

I agree this is where we are headed but trump aint half the man Lee was
