Trump's Policies, Part 7

The appeals court said that while “injunctive relief” ordered by the trial judge in the case was “well crafted to curb defendants’ business culture” at the Trump Organization, the monetary penalty, “which directs that defendants pay nearly half a billion dollars to the State of New York, is an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution.”

I'm guessing it will still end up in the SC to get the verdict reversed.

But good to see the justice system recognize what many considered to be lawfare against a leading contender for POTUS.
As I posted, the supreme court is a trial court in NYS. The Appeals Court is the top court. I can't see its going to the SCOTUS because I don't see a federal question being involved...

OK thanks, Earle! James could also appeal this ruling too, I guess. I don't see that happening though but we'll see.

Edit: OK, I see she just did.....oh well....guess it's how she rolls...

Trump: One of the things we are going to be redoing is your parks. I know more about grass than any human being anywhere in the world. We are going to be regrassing your parks, new sprinklers systems. It will look like Trump national golf club. Grass has a life. You know that? Grass has a life. We have a life, and grass as a life. The grass here died about 40 years ago

All I can say is we told you so. We elected a billionaire who's campaign is funded by billionaires, who is surrounded by billionaires. And if you expect him and the billionaires to do anything but give tax breaks to billionaires/increase taxes on the poorest to pay for those tax breaks, and you don't see this coming, then that's THE definition of ignorance.

My favorite item is the 100% tax breaks on private airplanes, so the Billionaires can write off the cost of literally flying above and avoiding the rest of the USA permanently on the USA taxpayer dime. That's the definition of fly over country if I ever heard of it. Democrats were nuked for mentioning this phrase, and yet the GOP has literally written it into the tax code: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/14/tax-cuts-private-jets-big-beautiful-bill.html

They don't care. The GOP, now MAGA, voters have literally been voting to keep themselves in the poor house for decades. All based on the mythical promise that one day the wealth will "trickle down" to them. It never does, yet they continue to vote to keep themselves poor election, after election, after election.

In fact, they cheer it on. They praise every tax cut for billionaires, even though they will never see any of it. It's the craziest thing, watching people cheer on the very folks who are holding them down.

Remember, many of the biggest cuts in the big beautiful lie bill do not go into effect until after the midterms next year (hmmm, I wonder why?). So folks are going to live under the BBB lie for almost a year, thinking it didn't affect much, and then wham. I can't wait to tell my parents, "this is what you wanted," when their health costs shoot up next fall.

but you have to understand, we are under a full, devastating assault from a handful of trans athletes competing in the ncaa. desperate times call for desperate measures

???? Businesses have been able to deduct the cost of equipment since the beginning of time. What this bill apparently did was to shorten the period they are allowed to spread the cost over from 5 years to 1 year. This is called bonus depreciation and it is done frequently for other asset types, just not airplanes. So, nobody is fleecing anyone. It's all about timing and just to be clear, this is not available to individuals, just businesses.

Canada is removing many retaliatory tariffs

OTTAWA, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Canada will announce on Friday that it is removing many retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods as a goodwill gesture designed to restart stalled trade talks, a source familiar with the matter said.
Canadian tariffs on U.S. autos, steel and aluminum will remain for now, said the source, who requested anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation.
