No surprise that he lied again but with a debt of 37T already, this may be an expense that can be postponed until we get our fiscal house in order.
Postponed??? The US Govt has absolutely no business paying for IVF treatment for people. Health care is already going to bankrupt us and now we have to pay for fertility treatments for women who decide to focus on their career until all of a sudden they are 30+ and can't conceive? They certainly have my sympathy but we can't pay for this for them. Do we pay to house the homeless, send umpteen billions to Ukraine, etc. AND give free IVF treatments. The next thing is Dems will want to pay for IVF for illegal immigrants.

Yet we have plenty of money for these boondoggles:

Trump's "big, beautiful bill" gives ICE unprecedented funds to ramp up mass deportation campaign

The "big, beautiful bill" signed into law by President Trump last week will allow him to dramatically expand his immigration crackdown, giving Immigration and Customs Enforcement an unprecedented pool of funding to bolster its efforts to arrest and deport immigrants living in the U.S. illegally.

Despite DOGE, Pentagon escapes Donald Trump's budget cuts unscathed

In February, before President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's very public feud, the president bragged his ally would find "hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse" in the Defense Department budget.

Less than five months later, the Pentagon formally announced the country's first-ever $1 trillion defense budget proposal for fiscal year 2026, eclipsing the previous year's enacted total by more than $100 billion. The direct "savings from DOGE collaboration" touted in the Defense Department's budget rollout? Only $6 billion.

He's Mr. Haney on "Green Acres" but nowhere near as funny...

Trump Says He Will Get Drug Prices Down By 500% To 1500%

“This is something that nobody else can do. We’re gonna get the drug prices down. Not 30 or 40% which would be great, not 50 or 60, no. We’re gonna get ‘em down 1,000%, 600%, 500%, 1,500%.”

Wow. Nice to know Big Pharma is gonna pay me ten times what I was paying them just so I'll take the drugs!

It's really scary to have a president who understands math that poorly. Three trillion is just words to him...

It's also frightening that there are millions of adult Americans who choose to believe whatever he says. And additional millions who know better but hate Democrats so much that they're willing to let him get away with it.

I called an old friend from college yesterday because it was her birthday. We text a couple of times a year. When we were in college, I was a member of the young Republicans for a brief period of time, and I really never knew what her political views were.

She’s full MAGA, and I am just in complete shock. Well, not the kind of shock I was in had this happened, say, five or seven years ago. It has happened to so many people I thought I knew now that it has kind of dead and me to it.

I just checked Israel who has universal health care and subsidizes college education which we happily pay for annually. It is easy for conservatives like me to be critical of food stamps, weigh reduction medication, welfare and IVF treatments Then I look at where we spend our money and how much money Eric Schmidt and Elon Musk make while paying little to no taxes. One has to put it all in perspective before beginning to tilt at windmills.

Never say never. We did it 25 years ago so there is always hope, albeit slim.
We did it 25 years ago only because the guy who now claims credit for its wife fell flat on her face trying to impose a $1 trillion (in the first ten years) healthcare system on us. (I LOVE how this part is always conveniently excised from the "But Clinton balanced the budget" claims).

It's not like we had a couple of cost cutting and economic geniuses who made it happen with smart tax increases and spending cuts.

It's just as scary that his cult will see this as "genius" when Trump says it but if Biden said it, it would be proof of dementia.

Wanna know how far we've sunk?

If George W. Bush said this same nonsense, we'd all laugh at it.
And none of us would REALLY think he MEANT it, although we might think he was dumb enough to believe it.

This guy?
You can actually believe he 100% means it or believes it.

With his fading mental abilities, I think numbers just mean nothing to him. Even before dementia set in, he'd been dishonest for so many years, they'd ceased to have meaning. His accountants have revealed he just gave them numbers he wanted and said "Make it happen." He listed his condo in Trump Tower at 30K square feet, when it was only 10K. "What will they buy" is the only criterion...

Plenty of women have fertility issues not caused by delaying pregnancy. But fair point that we can't pay for everything. The very odd pronatalist movement is the driving force here.

I think supporting Ukraine is a great way to bleed Putin and the exUSSR dry and keep them out of our way if they are going to fight anyway. Let Putin waste his men and material... We need to be focusing on China and the CCP and blunting their play for world supremacy. Xi is a canny leader and plays the long game quite well.

Numbers are the most dispassionate thing in the universe. The big budget items are Social Security, Medicare and Defense.

Relative to those, the rest is nickels and dimes on the margins. Until they -- especially SSI and Medicare -- get addressed, nothing else will have a material effect.

Late Add: Also interest on the national debt. As was suggested on this board, the Treasury should have refinanced a ton of debt when 30-year money was 3% or less -- because there's no way on God's earth that 3% 30 year money is sustainable. But they took the short-term solution because it was even cheaper in the moment, albeit equally unsustainable.

I think Trump is trying to reduce that line item by pressuring the Fed to reduce interest rates. As stated elsewhere on the board, the problem with that is the Fed controls only the overnight Fed Funds rate. Everything else is controlled by the market -- a concept that seems to elude him and his inner circle.

Usually, the bond market builds longer term rates up from the Fed Funds baseline. But that assumes the bond market is in at least passable agreement with the economic outlook and assumptions underlying the Fed Funds baseline. If the bond market calls garbage on those assumptions, cutting the Fed Funds rate will have little to no effect on longer term money -- longer term bonds, car loans, home mortgages, etc.

Now, the only way to reduce interest on the national debt is to pay it down....which gets back to fixing SSI and Medicare.

100% on board with this.

BREAKING: Agriculture Sec. Brooke Rollins announces new waivers banning soda, candy & other junk food from food stamp eligibility "SNAP is a supplemental nutrition program meant to provide health food benefits to low income families."

Define "junk food". Ok, so you can't buy snickers, but what about hot dogs? What about kraft singles. What about ramen? What about spam? All these things are unhealthy, but cheaper than many healthy foods. Healthy foods are expensive. Just another way to dehumanize people who have to use these benefits IMO

While I agree that healthy food choices should be cheaper, there are certainly levels of junk food. Meals, even junky foods like hotdogs, are still better than sodas and candy. That said, I'd be 100% fine if they banned junk food like hotdogs and spam from SNAP benefits.

I disagree this about dehumanizing anyone. It should be no different than WIC, imo - we're happy to help those in need, but the foods offered should meet certain healthy specifications.

I think the "dehumanizing" aspect is combining the raising of food costs (by eliminating a lot of the low cost stuff) while simultaneously reducing SNAP benefits.
