Two new mods and no more post preview. I guess that it does its job too successfully. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Maybe some day again we will be blessed. Brett??
Brett is in the process (yes even tidefans has a process) of moving to a larger server but in the event it doesn't get done before Saturday a few features have been turned off to make the site run better. The post preview got the axe as did a few other minor features, sorry for the inconvenience.
I would rather have no post preview than a message saying server is too busy like all day yesterday.
Brett told me this AM that, not only will we have a newer, more powerful server, we will have a backup server to take the backend off the primary server, in times of heavy usage, so maybe after another week or so, those server busy messages will be a thing of the past...
Yep - the new server should be orders of magnitude above this one (which ain't no slacker, either). As an example, yesterday (Monday, 8/25) we had the highest before-season-starts page view count we've ever had in the month of August... things got a little slow for some folks around lunchtime and around 10-11pm CDT. However, the rest of the day we did ok.
Just remember: Be kind to the server until we get the new one up and operating and PLEASE don't keep hitting refresh if the site doesn't appear immediately! Just press STOP on your browser and come back in a few minutes.
The server is kinda like the escape route up Hwy 59 from Gulf Shores: Three northbound lanes are fine until a hurricane comes and then it's a 24-hr traffic jam. We're gonna be fine the next game or two except on gameday just before, during, and after the game. When we move to the newer server, it will be like having 15-20 lanes northbound all the way to Huntsville

Word on the street is Bayou has a new "red button" called the M.O.A.B. button. If things get too bad he can push this button and administer the Mother Of All Bans, which instantly bans everybody but himself and automatically places an order for a pallet of Zimas to be delivered to his house. I guess you gotta be here a while to get that button. :biggrin:
