BREAKING Ty Declaring for NFL Draft

“ESPN's Dan Orlovsky said on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that multiple general managers he spoke to agreed that Alabama's Ty Simpson is the best quarterback in the draft class.

"I probably texted 12 to 15 general managers, decision-making coaches in the NFL, the very simple text of 'Ty Simpson is QB1 in this class, or the best quarterback in this class,' and two people got back to me with a disagreement," Orlovsky said

“Ty Simpson Reportedly Backed by 10+ GMs as 2026 NFL Draft's QB1 Over Fernando Mendoza”

Or maybe they just didn't feel like answering his texts.

every mock draft I have seen has Ty going to the jets or browns. poor Ty.

I’ve seen a few for Arizona and one for the Steelers.

The guesses are all over the place though.

I looked at 4 mocks this morning and one had him 3rd overall to Arizona, another late 1st round to Arizona, a Mid to late 1st round pick to the Steelers and the 1st pick of the 2nd round to the Jets.

I don’t think anyone has a clue who will take him or where.

I thought he was a 1st round lock so that was a bit concerning to see a 2nd round pick.

One thing though is Mendoza was #1 overall in every one of them.

So that stuff a few days ago about a bunch of people having Ty rated higher was nonsense.

I hope for his sake he's down in the 1st round far enough for a team that is a good landing spot will take him!

I don't know which team that is, but not the jets or browns!

Of the teams that seemingly have interest I’d hope he goes to the Steelers.

They are the only one that isn’t a dumpster fire organization.

I don’t know if it’s a good fit or not system wise though and they did draft Will Howard the year before I believe.

If you put any stock in what the talking heads of ESPN and NFL Network say about their "sources", supposedly the Steelers are not interested in getting a QB in the first round and will stick with developing Will Howard. Stupid move in my opinion if Simpson is there and they pass on him. But, the Steelers seem to enjoy consistently being "average" every season.

Will be real interesting. It’s quite possible he is the first pick of rd 2. Those of us here all wear crimson colored glasses, and attribute his poor second half of the season to various injuries. But the fact is, TY has only half a season of impressive film worthy of a first round pick for his entire career. For a 23 yr old, 6 nice games in total, could give many GMs reason to doubt he’s worth a first rounder.

To be clear, I am rooting like heck for him to go on the first round. But it’s hardly crazy if he doesn’t.

In fairness to both Ty and Orlovsky, before Ty got hurt he made some throws that if you blurred out the jersey and helmet color and number, you would have sworn it was Aaron Rodgers in his prime. It was one of Rodgers signature throws in his prime when he was rolling out of the pocket to his left and then instantly flipped his hips, squares his shoulders and fires a laser 25-30 yards downfield for a completion. Ty made several of those type of throws early in the season that was just eye popping. Not saying Mendoza can't make those types of throws, I just never saw him do it.

Unfortunately, Simpson's play after the injuries has almost completely overshadowed his play before the injuries in some people's minds. I think whoever can look past the performance during the injuries and remember what he was doing pre-injuries, will be greatly rewarded.

The thing with Ty being thought of as an NFL QB, we had this cat 2 years and …
I think Ty being able to process the game at an NFL level is probably what has Dan O excited, and truth be told... It's an impressive trait that many QBs don't get until they're given the chance to play a while in the actual NFL. I mean Bryce had that trait.

But I think Ty has less ability to process than say a Bryce after the snap as he can prior to the snap. Plus doesn't use mobility very well, would take some bad sacks leading to game changing fumbles, doesn't have a strong arm, doesn't have down field accuracy, etc.

I would hesitate to take the guy R1, unless I just really needed a QB and could spare not taking better talent. Seems that will fit several teams this year. Congrats to him

All that really means is that the Raiders are locked in on Mendoza. Of course all of the mock drafts will start out that way.

Imo it means Mendoza is clearly viewed as the #1 pick no matter who has the selection.

Ty seems to be viewed as the #2 QB but the perceived risk factor from injuries and a limited sample of healthy game film doesn’t have any teams clamoring to trade up and take him early in the 1st.

It’s looking like Arizona is the main team that wants him but they could get him in the 2nd round or if they get a bit antsy take him late in the 1st.

But my original comment was based on an interview saying so many teams had Ty rated higher.

That’s just not true or other teams would be looking to take him even over a need pick because you don’t pass up a potential franchise QB in the draft in a QB driven league.

Mendoza is viewed as a Franchise QB (could be wrong) and Ty is viewed as a gamble with a low buy in but a potential high payoff.

Personally, I don't think Mendoza will be a good QB. Not the first place he gets drafted anyway.

Mendoza is far from a sure thing. But the qb class is very weak. Unfortunately the teams that prob want/need Ty are AZ and the Jets… and either can take him at the top of rd 2.

Don't understand why Ty is going to the draft. Every year we get a player that goes and doesn't get drafted where he thinks. Anyone watching has to keep seeing the guy over and over. It is depressing. Then if he doesn't go 1st round, he has to show up again the next day. Unless he has been told by some organization that is is 100% their only choice.
