UA - USCe Postgame Thread...

Well, we won.The first half, our defense and rebounding were pretty good. The second half...not so much.We played the second half with no intensity, like we thought we had already won. Way too many TO's If not for our outscoring SC from the FT stripe by 19, we would have lost this game. I'd bet we don't get such a disparity in our favor tomorrow. RTR!!!

p.s. Ya think any Gamecock fans are complaining about officiating??? :)
The hidden factor was that they were fouling often and hard inside as a policy. For once, the refs called it, rather than going into paralysis...

I decided to stay away for the game for fear of running the risk of Earle fussing at me for going off on someone bashing the team..... with that said.....

3 years ago we lose that game.....now, we play bad and win anyway.....8 of last 11.....not too shabby.

Releford is just not healthy -- he is pretty much there for Defense and jump shots --

Lacey needs more minutes --- and let Releford heal......we have a week (we always get a Thursday game.....) before we need Releford. I think we can win just as easily with no Releford as we can with a damanged one......

Let Eblen play more, let Lacey drive, and let Hankerson get a few more minutes....

I'm all over the place -- but just glad they won.

I would love to see Eblen make some kind of offensive play whether it's driving through the lane or taking an open shot, just to keep the defense honest.:)
But, that's just me.

Thought Green played pretty well today - just wish he could secure and hold the ball in traffic, and stop being stripped by guards

Agree! Other than a wide open layup, he doesn't even think about it and it's like playing 4 on offense again their 5 on defense.

A lot of those "strips" were uncalled reach-ins. OTOH, he should have figured out they were going to get away with it and quit presenting the ball. Thinking back to the group I played with for so many years, I remember once when the ball handler pivoted and presented me with an obvious strip opportunity. Instead of coming away with the ball, I came away with a fat, jammed middle finger. I'd forgotten that he'd played WR for Auburn and his grip was a lot stronger than my strip. Lesson is that guards shouldn't be taking that ball away from Green without two or three hacks and a whistle. Something was said earlier about the disparity of FTs. The disparity their didn't even begin to mirror the actual fouls committed. Their tactic today was to give us the outside and foul the hell out of us inside and make us beat them at the FT stripe. It didn't quite work for them...

Love Coach Grant but sometimes I just wonder about the substitutions that he makes. Especially with the press. Lacey, Steele, and Hankerson should not ever be in on the press. They just arent athletic enough to trap the quicker PGs.

Of that group, Hankerson might be the least effective on the press, but the other two have been very effective. What would be your five man lineup to run the press?

Give me Releford, Cooper, Randolp, Steele and Green. I wouldnt have Steele pressing but I think that we have to have him in the game.

His substitution patterns bother me too, but more in the sense of he does it too much for the style we are playing. We sub like we are a push the pace offense when we are anything but. We end up with weird lineups all the time, many times with no real scoring threat on the court. I really think we have the depth to press and really run on teams but we seem to not play like this. I think we should play with less players and play our current sytle of play or play more and play how we play when we run up and down the court.

Couldntve said it better.

Hmmmmm....one one side we have a proven coach who makes millions of dollars with hours of game film and a team of assistant coaches to devise a game plan. On the other side we have a gathering of opinion givers who have never coached on the college level but think they could do it better than 90% of those currently in the profession.

I think I'll trust in Grant :)
