Urban Meyer thread 2.0...

Are the OSU admins so incompetent as to punish Meyer by placing him on AL for something that he has already reported?

Or did they intend to fire him and then something (someone) changed their mind?

Seriously these are the only two scenarios that I can see right now. None of it makes sense.

I think was less of a punishment, and more to keep him quiet while they can generate an uniformed response. I think had he took the Saban approach and said " Im not talking about it" , " No Comment", or " Go beat dirt" McMurphey's piece would not have near as the impact as it does now. Saban thinks strategically about his words, Meyer thinks emotionally. tOSU needed to shut him up before it got worse. Meyer is keeping his job, but he probably isn't coaching the first 2 games.

I think people are making more of this than what really happened. I do believe he had a lapse in judgement on keeping him on, but I don't think he deserves to be canned over this.

Smith's lawyer needs to find a new line of work. What decent lawyer would let his client do all these interviews? Unless Smith is just doing this on his own, maybe?

Yeah he comes across as a bumbling, lying, idiot. Especially when Brett McMurphy nukes this whole interview with a text where this moron admits to physically abusesing her

Brett McMurphy has shared evidence of Zach admitting to beating his wife. That interview was a lie.

I don't know what actually happened or when it happened -- none of us know yet and we may never know. I am not taking up for him but I will say if I were accused of what is accused of I imagine I would be really nervous and stammering.

Pardon me while I wait and see how I feel if the FACTS ever come out.

A friend of mine was arrested for molesting his grandchild. I thought he was guilty because his character was not one to write home about. He lost his job. He spent nine months in jail. His church kicked him out. His family disowned him. And me, YES ME, never visited him because I WAS AFRAID OF GUILT BY ASSOCIATION -- much like this because I know as I type someone will call me names.

His son and daughter-in-law finally came forward and admitted they made it all up because they wanted his house and money. He had recently inherited $200,000.00.

So I think I will wait until it goes to trial, and if it doesn't go to trial I will accept the Ohio State verdict.

With that said, there really is only one course of action for tOSU to take. But will they?

This statement indicates tOSU has atleast TWO courses of action that they could take. :biggrin2:

I dunno, the more and more I hear, the more and more I feel Urban deserves to stay on as the HC. I just think there is no evidence that he didn't fulfill his obligations as a reporter. Should he be punished for his media days fiasco? Yes, but if that is the only thing you can pin him with in this particular games the I think suspended without pay for a few game with the money he would earn in those games going to a DV charity is an adequate punishment.

3 Man Front posited that the investigative group may be looking into the evidence, and if nothing is absolutely clear in terms of who is at fault, it'll be their "out" to declare Meyer is innocent and/or fulfilled his legal responsibility in the matter. It would also buy the school time in case they decide to settle with Meyer and the other coaches.

To me, if Meyer didn't fulfill his legal responsibilities in regards to Title IX, then he, and any other coach that knew, should be canned. If he did, or Courtney Smith's evidence doesn't hold up, then he should stay as the coach as OSU. Meyer's official statement would lead one to believe that Gene Smith dropped the ball in this case, but there should be documentation verifying his version or not verifying his version. It's an absolute mess all around, particularly for OSU in light of their other investigations in this arena.

I think the lawyers & pundits have said that Title IX does not come into play here.

I think the only way it does is if he abused the kids too. I think where things get blurry with the situation of Title IX is that Urban is require to tell a Title IX rep of DV if a staff member commits it, but that doesn't mean it is a Title IX violation from what I understand.

Yes, but I was meaning SHOULD TAKE..

You just outlined the OTHER course of action.

I'll throw my opinion in (which is basically worthless). It does not matter if Meyer is a liar, a less than desirable human, or a cover up expert. He is 73-8 at osu and 6-0 vs the blue. He's going nowhere.

I am going to throw this out there and then I am done talking about Meyer or Ohio State football on this board. As things stand now, Meyer would not be fired by any school for what just happened - including Alabama. Think what you want of Meyer - he would not be fired.

Now, on to Alabama football. See you in the other threads.

And that’s all that matters...he’s a an untrustworthy weasel who wins a lot of games.

Things got overly heated yesterday and I decided to not get involved.

But only speaking for myself I have always liked you and enjoy your insights as both an tOSU and Alabama fan.

As for the general feelings here.... Man I don't think anyone here has a problem with tOSU as a school. They are without question one of the All-Time Great Blueblood programs. Top 3-5 no doubt about it.

There is no reason for any of us to have any contempt. We've only ever played 4 times and lead 3-1 with the 2014 Semi-Final being our 1st loss.

The reason things get testy for some (and I'm sure you already know this) is because Meyer is not well liked here AT ALL.

There is the admission of his greatness being 2nd only to CNS in this modern era sure.....but there isn't much respect.

His time at Florida is was has people rankled. He ran a shady program and behaved shady himself and when the competition got tough and we blasted his Gator teams off the field a few times he tucked tail and ran.

So that's the Meyer people see here..... Shady Florida Meyer.... and anything his does now that even might be shady is going to get people worked up.

But it has nothing to do with tOSU.....not really.

So basically I think we mostly all Respect your University......just not your Coach.

Having said all that my main feelings mirror what CA said early on in the previous thread....

I'm glad Meyer will remain at tOSU because the Buckeye's being great is good for college football and having another Elite coach (Besides CNS) like Meyer is good for college football....no matter whether we personally like him or not.

Anyway hope things will cool down now and I look forward to seeing your posts this season. RTR

What Ive learned yesterday is that a portion of Alabama fans hate Meyer worse than they hated Spurrier in the 90's. I never knew that.
